What if magic wasn't banned in Camelot and Merlin came to live there and is found to be emrys, the most powerful sorcerer that the world will ever know.

Merlin dragged his weary legs up the path across the drawbridge to the lower town of Camelot. straw littering the floor with the hustle and bustle of people besides him rushing of to what appeared to be the citadel. curious he decided to follow them up through the ancient archway. he was met with a large gathering of people all centered around a large wooden pire splintered and scorched, erected in the center of the square. A young man seemed to be tied to the pire. his eyes blue and lips cracked and flaking, eyes sullen and dull. As soon as he walked in, out of the corner of his eye he noticed a guard begin to light the pire.

Above on a balcony high above the crowd a man, regal in appearance, began to speak his voice booming across the square like thunder in a storm, "this man is has been tried guilty for the crime of treason, with the use of magic against the king with an attempt on the kings life. he shall die by fire a fitting death for a traitor who not only has betrayed his king but the good nature of magic he wields" And with the word it was as if a banshee cry had ripped through the kingdom as the man began to burn.

Merlin slowly moved away and began to look for the place in which he was expected. Before he could walk away a screeching cry was heard from beside the pire. An old hag stood sobbing. She shreaked above to the sky "an eye for an eye, a son for a son" alarmed the king shouted to the guards but before they could lay a hand on her she dissipated in a plume of grey feathers and smoke consuming her in a whirlwind before disappearing.

Slowly the crowd parted with a low murmur and Merlin was allowed to leave the square. He wandered towards the castle, quickly becoming lost in the labyrinth of corridors. A guard called to him asking what he was doing and after replying that he was lost and looking for Gauis he was final sent in the right direction.

Walking down some worn steps towards an old and warping door, he knocked and walked in. A man, which he assumed was Gaius was on a high shelf and as he turned quickly tripped and began to plummet to the hard stone floor. Within an instant Merlin's eyes flashed a brilliant gold and the bed that lay in the corner seemed to come to life and, cam speeding over to break the mans fall. "who are you and how did you do that, who taught you?" "I dont know i it just happens, I haven't been taught by anyone and i'm Merlin, Huniths son" "you can't be, you weren't supposed to be here till Wednesday" "It is Wednesday" "oh, well come in put your things in the room over there, you will be doing jobs for me until you get your own job"

And with that Merlin scuttled of towards the room to unpack. the bed was made from old wood solid but bowing with straw laid upon the frame and a thin blanket on top of that. Perfect for him.

After a while Gauis walked in with a book in his hand, "Here practice, it will help you get your magic under control, so that you don't cause an accident" "thank you" "your welcome but keep that magic under control we wouldn't want anyone to get hurt now would we".

With that Merlin put the book upon his shelf and begin the tasks assigned to him by Gaius earlier.

As Merlin was trudging down the winding paths through Camelot he cam across the training grounds for the soldiers and the knights. The atmosphere was filled with the sound of steel clashing upon steel and the poor, desperate screams of a servant boy, running from a knight with a target upon his back. Merlin, feeling sympathy for the boy, shouted towards the knight, "I think that's enough my friend" "we are not friends, stranger" the knight scowled back at him. "Even though don't you think this is enough" "What I do with my servants is my own business" "Who do you think you are, the king?" "No, but i am his son, Prince Arthur, and yo will address me as such" "Well sorry you royal prat, sir" "That's it! We shall duel, and you shall pick the weapon" "What if i decline" "Then you shall be thrown in the cells, for disrespecting your prince" "Fine I accept, and I choose......" "Get on with it" "Magic"

That one word was enough to trigger the realization that the prince had just made a grave mistake. He could withdraw and be dishonored, he could fail and face his fathers wrath upon loosing a duel, or he could win and be cursed by magic itself for challenging and harming a child of magic.

"Wait you never said that you were a sorcerer!" "Not many know, and i'm not a sorcerer, I am a warlock. I was born with magic, i was not taught."
