Regression to the Mean

"So, what's the plan?"

I was sitting on top of my favorite blue jeep parked out on the reserve. My legs were stretched out before me as I leaned on the windshield. The city of Beacon Hills below us. I look up to lightening strike the dark side signaling it was going to rain soon.

"All right, so I found some cool two bedrooms in the Mission District, but they're pretty expensive. A couple in Haight and Ashbury. Also expensive." Stiles said from beside me.

"What about Berkeley?" My brother spoke up from beside me. I normally chose to stay out of the conversations when it came to college. I mean, senior year hasn't even started yet. Why do I have to worry about college now? I know where I'm going and what I want to do. The rest I'll figure out when I cross that bridge. I turn my head towards Stiles when he mentions bringing the jeep.

"You're bringing the Jeep? Are you sure it can make it that far?" I asked. Stiles slapped my thigh in response.

"You know the plan, okay. No one gets left behind. That's the plan." He told me making my hands go up in defense. "Lydia's not gonna have a problem getting into Stanford. Kira's thinking USF. Malia's, uh, gonna, you know, she'll figure something out, okay. The plan is perfect."

"How about we wait to we actually get into college to see where we live?" I ask him. I take his hand intertwining it with mine and place it on my lap.

"Baby, I have a vision. Okay? And it is a beautiful vision. Don't ruin the vision." He answered. He started talking about apartments again as I looked out toward the city. I think Stiles could sense we weren't listening to him. He squeezed my hand slightly.

"You two all right? Are you starting to feel it?" Stiles asked us.

I shook my head in response. "I'm fine. What about you, Scotty?"

"Just thinking." He answered.

"About?" I ask.

"Senior year." He said.

"Senior year? Come on, that's, that's... That's nothing. That's going to be easy." Stiles said.

"It's more like something Deaton told me once. You ever hear of regression to the mean?" Scott asked us. Both of us shook out head no. "It was his way of saying that life can't ever be all bad or all good. You know, eventually things have to come back to the middle. So, think about the last few months. Things have been good, right? But not amazing."

"Yeah, but no one's tried to kill us in six months either." I interrupt.

"We've been pretty much in the middle for a while. Which means, at some point, the scale has to tip one way or the other. Things are gonna get really good again, or really bad." He told us.

"I swear if you're jinxing us, I'm going to lose my mind." I scold him. They both laughed at my response. I look back at Liam as thunder crackles in the distance. Stiles went crazy about what happened on the last full moon. He's worse on him more than when Scott and I when we were turned. "Think it's been long enough?"

His head pops up at my question. "Yes!"

"Hey. Trying to have an adult conversation over here." Stiles ignores Liam.

"All right, you're two years older than me. And I'm fine. Just let me go." He says trying to get out of the chains. I hop of the jeep and follow Scott and Stiles over to Liam. As soon as I stop next to Stiles he grabs my hand.

Scott spoke up first. "It's not that we don't trust you. It's that-"

"It's that I don't trust you." Stiles interrupted.
