Peter didn't know where he was.

It was pitch black but... not.

There were colors around him. Colors he's never seen before in his lifetime. It's all swirling around him in dissonant spirals and every time he turns, it's something completely different.

After a while of this, Peter gets bored and begins to try and find shapes in the colors. One looks like the Milano. Another looks like his father's planet that he destroyed not too long ago. And one even reminded Peter of that other Peter, the young and annoying guy that Tony Stank (or something like that) brought with them to fight.

Peter raised his hand to his face, but nothing appeared. He willed his hand to coil into a fist and punch himself in the face, just to see if it hurt. But he felt nothing. Peter Quill was no longer a body or a being. He was just a consciousness. A lost soul without any home.

It was obnoxiously colorful here. It was hurting Peter's eyes. He wanted to shut his eyelids but it was impossible. He didn't have eyelids. It was like a dream. This colorful hell.

Why was Peter here?

He didn't know either.

All he remembers is fighting and Thanos (who turns out to be Gamora's father) and—

Oh.

Oh, that's right.

Gamora.

Where is she?

Peter is forgetting something quite important here. Did something happen to Gamora?

A quick search of his thoughts leads to nothing, other than the sweet moments they shared.

Dust. Peter had turned into dust somehow.

Thanos' doing perhaps?

Thanos... Thanos...

Why were they fighting Thanos?

Because Thanos is a jerk. Because Thanos is attempting to conquer the universe. Because Thanos wants all the infinity stones. Because Thanos is a child-murdering psychopath who would give up his own daughter just for—

...Thanos murdered his child.

Thanos has two children. Nebula and Gamora.

Thanos murdered Gamora.

Peter tries to take in deep breaths but he can't; he has no lungs and no body and no mouth or nose to breathe in with. He wants to cry, to feel the hot tears roll down his cheeks just for the sake of feeling. Anything would be better than this colorful hell.

Maybe Peter took being human for granted.

And Gamora. Was she really dead? Or was Thanos just doing what he did best; being a villain?

But why would he lie about that? And how would have he gotten the infinity stone otherwise. No, Gamora was dead. There was no doubt about that.

Peter would never see Gamora again.

To be honest, Peter didn't think he would ever see anyone. It's been quite a while in this colorful hell. He didn't grow sleepy, and there were no reference points, so it was literally impossible to tell time.

The thought of Gamora still stings Peter's non-existent heart. He swears he can feel his heart clench whenever he thinks about her.

Did the ashy-thingy happen to everyone? What about Groot? And Rocket, Drax, and Mantis? What about Tony and the other Peter, and all the other planets and species? What happened to them? Did Thanos really destroy everything?

It's possible. He murdered his own daughter for a fancy gemstone.

Was Gamora in this same situation? Was she also seeing a colorful hell where time has no limit and your senses are useless? Was she in heaven, like the heaven that Peter's mother used to talk about all the time on Sundays?

Peter didn't know what was more comforting: the idea that Gamora was right there with him, or the idea that she was somewhere up there (wherever up is) in heaven, singing with the angels.

Peter just wanted to see her one last time.
