The teacher bit back a smile and told us to take our seats.
I looked around for an empty chair to sit in when someone grabbed my hand.
Startled I tried to pull it away, but the person kept a tight grip.
Shane was dragging me to the back corner. People were whispering behind their hands, I have no idea why.
He plopped down into one of the two empty chairs, still holding my hand. I had no choice but to take the seat to his left. The seat was between him and the wall.
I couldn't help but feel a little trapped, not having anywhere to go.
I have a feeling he wanted it that way.
I took a deep breath and got my notebook and pencils out. I noticed Shane just sat back in his chair, one hand resting on the back of my chair.
In a somewhat possessive way... Or maybe just casually.
Before I could overthink the situation, the teacher began the lesson.
The course was a university level course, and that meant a lot of work, especially considering it was math.
But Shane was still in the same comfortable position.
And instead of paying attention to the lesson, he was looking out the window. Not at anything particularly, just kind of staring off.
I leaned over to him and whispered "do you want a piece of paper and pencil?"
He looked at me, breaking out of his daydreaming. When my words registered, he leaned closer, with an amused smirk, and whispered back "nah, I'm all good sweetheart."
He winked and leaned back. I just nodded my head in turn. I was a little flustered, what was with him and all the pet names?
The lesson finished, and the teacher gave us the last 10 minutes to work on our textbook questions.
There was a question I wasn't getting, I was completely stumped. I looked at my notes and still couldn't figure it out.
I let out a distracted sigh.
"You need help babe?"
I looked up at Shane to see him looking at me with amused eyes. I nodded, because I really did need it.
He leaned over and explained the question to me. He showed me the variables and the equations that were supposed to be used.
He didn't do the question for me, which I was grateful for. I didn't like when people taught like that, it didn't help me.
He spoke slowly, but not talking as down to me either. He answered my questions and helped me through the question.
He was really smart, especially for someone who wasn't even paying attention to the lesson...
"Hey, how did you even know how to do this?" I asked him, speaking quietly.
He just winked.
