The other guy grabbed snake bites before Shane could get to him.
"Jared" he sounded exasperated. "Why must you be so difficult."
He turned to me with a hand extended. "Hi I'm Asher, this is my boyfriend Jared. That is Sierra. It's nice to meet you."
Sierra got up and walked over to me. She didn't offer her hand, instead she hugged me.
"I'm so glad to have another girl in the group" she grinned widely.
I offered her a shaky smile. When I glanced at Shane, he was smiling down at me. He also had a cigarette in his mouth.
I really didn't like the smell of cigarettes so I decided to talk with Sierra while the guys finished theirs.
I also didn't want to stand next to Jared who was still glaring at me.
I, surprisingly realized, I had a lot in common with sierra. We had similar taste in music, and we both liked to read.
She was so easy to talk to despite the fact that she looked so intimidating. I knew Vee would love her too.
Sierra was in the middle of telling me a story of her little brother when i felt someone starring at me.
I looked up and met Shane's intense gaze. He was looking at me and I couldn't tell how he was feeling.
His eyes were hypnotizing, I just couldn't look away from them, from him.
He put out his cigarette and walked over to me. I was getting butterflies and they went wilder the closer he got.
He stopped right in front of me and held his hand out.
"Ready for lunch?" His voice was husky.
I just nodded my head and placed my hand in his.
He started to walk back towards the school with me in tow.
But then I remembered I wanted to introduce Sierra to Vee.
I slowed and tugged lightly on Shane's arm to get his attention.
"I think Sierra and Vee would get along. Do you think Sierra would want to come to lunch with us?" I asked in a hopeful tone.
Shane looked down at me and then across to where Sierra was, by the tree.
"Sierra doesn't like to go in the cafeteria. She feels claustrophobic, and she had an incident last year with an asshole" he explained.
But when he saw my fallen face he quickly added "but I'm sure she'd like to meet Vee outside of the cafeteria."
I nodded my head, already planning tomorrow's lunch.
We continued our walk to the school still holding hands. The stares still bothered me, but I'd try to ignore them.
Friends held hands all the time.
