"BEEP-BEEP-BEEP" The alarm rang throughout the house. The sound of the movement outside filled the small Queens apartment, the sweet and delicious smell of bacon filling the air. Waking up after an exhaustive five minutes, Sage DeLacrose shifted herself out of her small bed. She hopped over to the small closet on the other side of the room. Looking at her wardrobe she groggily reaches for a dark sweater and some red sweatpants. She sighed in deeply glancing at her foot and then to this mechanical torture device also known as a leg brace. Shaking her head thoroughly age hopped over towards the small chair that the brace rested firmly on. She slipped down into the chair and started fastening the buckles around her leg and making sure it was still usable.
Taking a step up from the grown she gave a Dall yelp as she started to let her leg fall out from under her body as she still was not used to having no crutches or the wheelchair. Slowly but surely she stepped forward and relaxed her weight evenly. Although she had been practicing with the brace for the last few months she was still new to it, as anyone would be.
"knock, knock"
The person as the door laughed as they knocked the door. The figure slipped inside the door and gave a faint yet proud smile. "look at my baby girl, look how far you-you've come" The figure, who had Sage realized now, was her mother started to simpler a small bit before letting out a small tear and wiping it away from her brown and fierce eyes which rarely ever shed a tear. "Mom, it's ok. I'll be fine" Sage laughed slowly to try and keep herself from getting too emotional in front of her mother. On the inside she may be crying, ranting but on the outside, she was a happy go lucky girl with nothing to worry about.
"Hmm, ok, sweetie, come downstairs for super soon though"Sage's mother noted as she slipped out of the small apartment room. A few minutes passed and Sage had gotten past the stairs almost holding her breath every time to had to let go of the railing. Taking a deep breath she steadied herself on the ground and started towards the kitchen/dining area. The closer to the kitchen she got, the more evident the smell was. A beautiful scent of bacon, eggs and toast that had been homemade from heart was seeping into the air. Her stomach gave a small lion-like raw. She smiled and stumbled over to the drive and gave her, Mom a small look of gratitude. She slipped some food onto her small plate and laid it on the counter. She opened one of the small cabinets that were lining the walls of the kitchen while taking out a cup of them proceed and fill it with some milk. A regular breakfast at her house. Making her way around her house, Sage had startedbher day out great. She had a perfect idea for the day, she had great hope and was determined to stick it out through anything that day. That is what she hoped it would be but, alas knowing her previous promises of 'getting out there' or 'I'll totally be social' she would stay to herself, it was easier. As she always said 'You can't get hurt if you have no one to hurt you" it was dark, yes but it had gotten her through most of her life. Not to say that she had absolutely no friends. There was, Hailey. She had always been close to her, even before the accident. Derek was nice. Over middle school she got closer with him, she got used to letting her guard down around him and they were now inseparable and, Sage was content with it.
"C, mom! You're going to be late for school" her mothers dovenlike voice rang through the house. Sage's mother was a short women with long and silky brown hair. Sage was an exact replica of her father, she was told she barely resembled her mother. Though over the summer she had cut her hair drastically changing her appearance. Which only made the difference more obvious. With her mother now having to raise a child on her own, Sage had been taught many serious things as a kid. She wasn't that mature for her age, her mother was still so new to parenting when she was younger.
"Sure mom, I'm going, I'm going" Sage laughed, quickly scrambling for her stuff as her mother waited at the door waiting for her young daughter.
"New year, new you?"
"No"
"New year, new attitude?"
"No, Mom, New year. New nothing."
