Chapter III

Monday morning. The day I have dreaded probably all my life, even when I did live in Delaware. There was just never any good news that came with Monday.

"Sweetie, Noah you have to wake up! First day!" My mother sounded excited but the only thing I could hear was yikes, yikes, yikes! Although I had an instant hatred for life, I stood up and scoured through my wooden drawer until I found a simple outfit consisting of a white hoodie with a small red rose sitting on the right corner and a pair of skinny light blue denim jeans. I then wandered over to my mirror and grabbed a light teal hairbrush with soft bristles touching my scalp then putting my hair in place with a small cowlick in the back that would occasionally stand up to annoy me even more.

Finishing up with my outfit, I sped down the stairs and into the bathroom where I took hold of my toothbrush and the toothpaste. I spread the rough blue and white along the soft bristles and rinsed it quickly under the sink. I opened my mouth and started to scrub the brush along my teeth and soon went after my tongue. "Noah, hurry up. You're bus get's here at 7:30 and it's 7:20," my mom once again told me.

"I know, I'm almost done!" I sounded odd with the toothpaste and spit out, rinsed my mouth, and dried my face. "Socks, socks, socks." I turned back to the dryer that was installed in my bathroom and searched for a matching pair of socks but only found a single black sock and a single white sock. With these, I found my sneakers and slipped them on. "Mom! Where's my backpack? I don't where anything is in this house!" I frustratingly found it and sprinted out of my front door without saying a word to my mom. I didn't know if I should feel bad or not, but I had no time to say it.

By the time I reached the bus stop, I realized I was the last one to get there. Embarrassing. I looked around, surrounded by towering guys that all seemed to be friends considering they were all in their little group while I stood bored, tired, and alone. The bus made its way down the road. The engine's roaring sound drilled into my head, not the sound I wanted to hear this early in the morning. The bus approached us slowly and I stood back as I watched every person rush to the bus doors, leaving me last. I grabbed the handle to help me stand up on the aisle when I felt the floor move, I instantly tumbled into a seat where I looked over only to see window guy. I know, coincidence. I avoided any eye contact and sat as far as possible before I noticed eyes gawking me, but it wasn't him. It was a girl sitting back a seat on the opposite side of the aisle. I snuck a look at her just to see what she looked like.

"Hello," she voiced suddenly, her soft voice forcing me to turn to look at her.

"Oh, hey," I replied. There was a moment of silence before she moved over farther into the seat.

"I can tell you don't want to sit there, so... wanna sit here?" She inquired. I nodded, leaving him to sit alone. The awkwardness was gone once I sat next to her, she was friendly and I could tell she was one to 'take me out of my shell'. "You're new?" I heard her talking but for some reason, my eyes were fixed on him. I hated him.

"Yeah I guess," I responded, completely stuck staring at him, just him. Her voice barely touched me, but for some reason, I had a temptation to just sit next to him again. I didn't though, I eventually returned to reality and looked at the girl talking to me. "Sorry, what'd you say?"

She palmed her face in frustration before saying, "did you not hear anything I said?"

I then muttered, "I did but I was just in a daze, sorry." I rubbed my eyes.

"Well, you're new, right?" She mouthed very slowly just in case I didn't understand. I nodded, giving her access to speak again. "I can help you around if you want, yeah?"

"That sounds good. Thanks... and your name is?" For some odd reason, I felt bad for not knowing even though she never actually told me.

"Millie Ferns," she said confidently. I considered her a friend even though I barely even knew her. What is her age? Is she a junior as well? Who is this Millie?

I felt obligated to tell her my name, "Noah Brooks." She gently nodded with a smile.

The ride to school was silent, no one spoke, but some kids arranged a few whispers every now and then about whatever they were talking about.  We arrived at the school and I could feel my veins pulsating. I had no clue where to go or what to do, so when the bus stopped to let the kids off the bus I let everyone go before me. When everyone got up, I noticed he was still standing at his seat. Did he wait for everyone like I did?

"You can go," I nervously insisted. Without hesitation, he emptied his sear by fleeing off the bus. After him, Millie and I were able to go.

"Why did you let everyone go before you?" Her voice implying she was again irritated by another 'Noah mistake'. When we entered the large brick building, she held out her hand, "hand me your schedule." I did as she told me and gently placed it on her palm.

"Do we by any chance have any classes together?" I asked in desperation.

"Yes, but only two," she urged, my life crumbling away. I thought, maybe I could just have one good thing happen to me during this extremely large change in life, but then again... this isn't Cinderella. "Your first class is Chemistry. Room 2206 with Mr. Quinn. I'll take you really quickly." We walked through the halls slowly, giving me a chance to admire the architecture. She guided me up a flight of stairs that brought us to a door that she opened and held opened for me, allowing me to pass through.

"I don't mind finding it alone, I don't wanna make you late," I spoke softly.

"If you insist. Just go down this hallway and right before a ramp, you'll find a door and that's 2206. Good luck, see you around!" She hollered before waving and walking in the other direction. They say when you're nervous you get butterflies, but in my opinion, it was more like one giant butterfly. I reached the door she talked about and placed my hand on the cold knob. I contemplated opening the door for a few moments before twisting it then opening it and walking in.

"Hello there, Noah?" The tall male teacher suddenly asked.

"Um, y-yes," I stuttered, looking around the room.

"Good, we have the perfect area for you, you can go sit next to Lucas. Back table with the open seat," he said as he pointed to a familiar face which I recognized when I glanced for a second time. I walked over miserably, dragging my feet across the floor hoping this was a dream and I was still in Delaware.

I sat down, sliding my seat away from him, from Lucas. When I looked over for a look at his face, my hands began to tremble. Then, he spoke.

"Hey, Mini."
