When Skout opened her eyes again the sun was already starting to go down.
"You awake?" Toth asked the young girl when she noticed that Skout had woken up.
"Yea. Sorry, I didn't mean to fall asleep. Where are we?"
"We just passed Bliss Hill. Get off and ride your own horse." Toth answered sternly and stopped her horse. The girl got off and got her horse back from Red who had been leading it next to his. The group started galloping again with Toth at the front and Skout forming the tail. When Jethro came to take her place she hurried up to Toth and asked her where they were headed. Toth explained to her that they couldn't go back to Don Paragon so they would go home and regroup in a week. The Dandy Lions were too tired to keep searching and even Toth saw that they all needed a break.
The statement that they would go homemade Skout worry more than celebrate, then it would mean that she would have to hide Friend somewhere else. Having him and Toth in the same building was too risky and she wasn't even sure if she was still at her place. She was such a thunderhead to believe she, a Spittoon girl, could help the most wanted being in Nowhere. She hadn't thought it through enough and now it would make her life hell until she could find a safe place for him to hide. Suddenly she remembered something. The old barn. It hadn't been used in years and no one ever bothered walking half an hour just to get to it. It would be the perfect hiding spot for Friend. Scout almost laughed at the thought.

When they finally arrived at their destination, Skout excused herself and ran up to her flat. The nomad jumped on her as soon as she closed the door behind her.

" Shht!... Be quiet. Toth is home. Don't forget she lives underneath us." Friend nodded and got off her.

" Did anybody see you here? Did you use your magic?" He shook his head.

" Good." she put her things down. " Did you have enough food?"

He didn't answer, but Skout felt she knew the answer already.

" You don't eat much do you?" The nomad nodded.

" Why did you have so many dirty plates in your house when I met you? If you barely eat, then why did you cook so much?" He cooked for someone else as well. " Who?" He didn't answer. He didn't even bother thinking of the answer.

" Hey, I just noticed. How come I understand you?" She understood him? " Yes." Is that why she answeres his Questions? " Yes." How? "I don't know. It's not like you're speaking, it's more like I know what you're thinking. Is that normal?" No. "Really?" She walked over to her bed and sat down.

He started to get the sneaking suspicion that something changed. She could understand him. She shouldn't be able to do that. She didn't have magic, at least not anymore. If she could understand him, it would mean that she managed to activate it, but it had laid dormant for so long. Why now? Did she even realize who she was yet?

" Whats wrong friend? You seem awfully quiet." Scout asked him.

What happened to her? Something changed?

" What do you mean?"

What happened to her when he was hiding in her apartment?

" Well, I found the Dandy Lions. Everything went according to plan, but after releasing the stone, I slipped and hit my head. I had a weird dream about my gran and... I remembered something. when I woke up, I was surrounded by fire. My torch probably lit the cave on fire when I fell. Toth thinks you laid the fire to cover your tracks. I let her believe it."

Was it really the torch that lit the fire?

"I think so..."

Did she get hurt?

" No. The fire didn't burn." Skout stated with wide eyes while flailing her arms around her. " I didn't tell anybody because they would think I'm crazy, but I'm not. The flames didn't burn me, and I was sitting in them!"

She remembered o- her parents, didn't she?

" How did you-" She shouldn't remember! " Why- What... What do you mean?"

The nomad was now kneeling on the floor in front of her holding his head like a madman. Skout felt that he was in distress, but she didn't care. He knew something that she didn't. He knew and he was not telling her. She scrambled to the floor and started shaking him by his shoulders. He shook his head and closed his eyes. He tried to calm himself down and managed to get a grip. He sat straight and answered.

Her flames. She shouldn't have... She can't have... This is bad.

" What do you mean my flames?" He didn't answer her question. " Friend!" She pleaded loud enough for Toth to hear it and immediately threw her hand over her mouth. Slowly she falls to her knees and lets go of her mouth.

" Please..." She whispered.

Friend didn't have time to answer before loud knocks were heard coming from Skouts door.

" Skout?!" Toth asked with her powerful voice.

Skout quickly pushed Friend under her bed and closed the door of her room before opening the door to find Toth standing in front of her.

" I heard you scream out." She stated.

" Sorry Toth... I fell asleep and had a nightmare." Skout attempted to lie. It wasn't hard to fake since she was already on the verge of tears.

" Still tired?" She asked. Skout nodded.

" I can't even fall asleep without having a nightmare... "

" What was the nightmare about? I heard you call out for a Friend."

" I don't. I...I just..."

" Memories?" She asked softly. The girl nodded.

Toth understood and didn't ask further questions. She just patted the girl on the head and said good night. She was about to leave before she felt thin arms wrap around her from behind.

" Good night," Skout whispered before letting go and disappearing behind her door.
