Recap:
Suddenly, I feel someone breathing against my ear.
"What's up with your dog, Park?"
Present:
'What's up with your family, Russell?'
I keep my thoughts inside and bite back my retort, outwardly shrugging.
Khan walks past the two of us, looking like he was done watching the scene in the doorway.
"Kane, what are you doing lurking over Raven's shoulder?" Uncle J says, sounding very authoritative.
"Nothing much, what are you doing with her dog?" Kane, who was standing directly behind me, bumps my shoulder as he passes.
"Petting her." Kayden deadpans.
"What does it look like, Kanney?" This time Kion speaks up, from where he and Kayden are petting Ptera.
"You little brat!" Kane practically growls at Kion.
"Boys! That's enough. Raven asked me if she could bring her dog to live here for a while. She's been living at Raven's workplace." Uncle Jackson carefully words his sentence, aware I don't like very many people to know specifics about my job.
Kane snorts.
"Wait, the little princess has a job?" Kaleb breaks in, sounding confused.
"What is it? An assistant fashion designer?" Kane asks mockingly
Does anything you've seen me wear say fashion designer to you??
"Or a junior secretary at her daddy's company?" Kaleb adds, smirking along with Kane.
I almost burst out laughing at how far from the truth those accusations are.
One glance at Uncle Jackson tells me that he's barely resisting himself as well.
"Well, she doesn't work as either of those things but that's not the topic right now. This dog is going to be living here, Raven will take care of her, and all you boys will have to do is leave her alone." Uncle J states when he has calmed down a bit.
By now, Keegan has ventured to pat Ptera on the head, and she nudges his hand for more.
I quietly snicker at the look of utter and complete shock on his face.
Kayden and Kion look thrilled that he's warmed up to Ptera, while Kaleb, Kane, and Killian look at him as if he just took off his head and put it on backwards.
Khan hangs back, his face hinting at amusement, while the rest of his siblings quite obviously show their emotions.
Martha appears at the door.
"Dinner is ready." She announces in a gentle voice, as if sensing some tension in the room.
I finally push myself off of my place on the door frame and start walking across the room, trying to avoid any furniture or people standing around(*cough* Kaleb *cough*).
I click my tongue, and Ptera quickly turns her head to look at me. I give her the hand signal to heel, and she carefully wiggles her way out of the four males that surround her and bounds over to my side.
When we get to Martha, she leans in to whisper. "I set up Ptera's dinner in the kitchen. I figured it might be better, given how some of the boys feel about her."
I give her a grateful look, then direct my attention to Ptera. I click my tongue twice to get her attention, and use two fingers to point from her to Martha. Ptera nudges my hand, then sets off to follow Martha.
