Recap…
Without thinking, I ran over and grabbed his hand, making him stop. “I-I didn’t mean it like that,” I said quickly, embarrassed by my actions. What were we talking about again? I got so lost in the moment, I couldn’t think straight.
He laughed, surprising me. “You’re so cute, Avery.” He reached out and ruffled my hair, which was probably really messed up right now. “Go to bed. Goodnight.”
I stiffened while my stomach fluttered. “Goodnight,” I whispered, watching his back. Our little talk just then was more than enough to give me a good night sleep.

CHAPTER 14
“Avery, you’re coming with us.”
“I’m not.”
“Yes, you are.”
“I don’t want to.”
Jess placed a hand on her hip. “You have to come or else I’m going to tell your crush that you’ve liked him for ten years now.”
I gaped at her. “That’s not funny, Jess.”
Slowly, she frowned, removing her hair tie so that her curls fell past her shoulders. “You’re going to appreciate it later. Trust me.”
Two knocks abruptly sounded before the door to our bedroom was pushed open. “Does Avery want to come?” Master Josh asked, looking between the two of us.
My heart leapt into my throat. “Isn’t it kind of late now, though?” It was the best excuse I could come up with.
Master Josh shook his head, looking somewhat puzzled. “It’s only seven thirty. Alex wants to go to the game arcade. It’s about a forty minute drive away; do you girls want to come?” His eyes shifted down my body as though something had caught his attention.
Growing self-conscious, I jumped off the bed, moving to stand beside Jess.
“Avery,” Master started, “I think you forgot to take off the apron.”
Lowering my gaze, I realised he was right. Why didn’t Jess notice? Swallowing, I quickly untied the strings at the back, swiftly removing the garment from my body.
Jess grinned, placing the comb back into the top drawer of the dressing table. “We’ll get changed now. Can you and Master Alex wait for us?”
He smiled. “Sure, we’ll be in the car.”
It was only when Master Josh left our bedroom that my heart beat managed to return to its normal pace. I stared at Jess in disapproval. “Why are we going with them?” I didn’t like the idea of playing games with Master Josh all night; it was just too nerve-wrecking.
She looked at me, creasing her eyebrows. “Why not? There’s nothing better to do.” She walked over to the closet, picking out some warm clothes to wear.
Sighing, I did the same. There was simply no other choice when Jess made a decision.
The car ride to the game arcade wasn’t as bad as I expected. Master Alex and Jess had their usual arguments which I just found strangely amusing. Master Josh and I made eye contact every now and then, and whenever that happened, he sent me a smile that had my stomach doing backflips.
“Oh, my God, the last time I came here was like two years ago!” Jess cried, running over to a car racing machine. She beamed at us, working at the buttons.
Master Alex spoke. “Hey, Josh, want to verse me at the pool table? I bet you can’t beat me this time.” He smirked, evidently challenging his brother.
