Recap…

My body stayed immobile as he stepped forward, placing a gentle kiss on my cheek before tucking his scarf around my neck. At once, I felt warm, contented, and at home.

“Let’s get back, it’s getting dark.”

I couldn’t help but smile. We walked along the footpath, hand in hand, oblivious to the noises around us.

Butterflies erupted in my stomach. The past ten years was totally worth the wait.

CHAPTER 15

“Revision time is over. Shut your textbooks and place them on the floor, please,” Mr Kance said in a calm and even tone. In his hands was a pile of paper, undoubtedly the test I was completely unprepared for.

Jess leaned over and tapped my arm while the teacher delivered the papers. “Are you alright?”

My face was pale from nervousness but I managed an assuring nod. Mathematics had never come across as a difficult subject to me but today, I lost the usual confidence.

The past week had been so different. I was used to spending time in my bedroom doing homework or reading a book whenever the housework was completed; instead, I’ve been spending that time with Master Josh – not that I was complaining, I just hope my grades wouldn’t drop.

An hour later, the final bell sounded, indicating school had finished. I dropped my pencil case into my bag, zipping it up before throwing the strap over my shoulder.

“C’mon,” Jess ushered, steering me out of the room and into the packed hallway. “How are things going with him?” she asked, referring to my relationship with Master Josh. I constantly forgot his reminder of calling him by just ‘Josh’. It was difficult, but I was progressing.

“Pretty good,” I told her, trying to stifle a smile. I knew my response was an understatement but it was too embarrassing to give her the details. Images of last night rushed into my head, dusting a faint blush across my cheeks. We were cuddling on the sofa in his room, watching a movie on his TV when he was about to kiss me – if he did, it would’ve been my first kiss, ever.

I bit the edge of my lip to suppress another smile as I remembered the sound of his chuckle when I bolted out of the room, my heart thundering in my chest at the closeness of his lips.

“What are you smiling about?”

I drew in a sudden breath, startled as I pulled out of my reverie. “Mas-” I shook my head. “Josh,” I breathed. It sounded like I forgot his name. The thought alone made me chuckle quietly. If anything, that was the last thing to happen.

“You’re in a good mood today,” he remarked, entering my locker combination for me. He pulled the door open, waiting for me to put away my maths textbook.

I didn’t comment on that. Didn’t he realise I’ve been beyond happy since the second I became his girlfriend?

“Cuties,” Jess whispered with a sly grin before retreating down the hallway.

Josh chuckled. “How many times has she said that?” He reached for my hand, walking us leisurely to the front entrance of the school. “Where do you want to go?”

I should have been used to it by now, but whenever his gaze on me held such intensity, I couldn’t help but blush. “I don’t mind,” I responded, enjoying the warmth of his skin against my hand.

He swung our hands as we walked through the opened doors. Curious eyes drifted around, obviously from the people who haven’t yet seen us together. It wouldn’t have been such a big deal if Josh wasn’t one of the more popular guys in the school.
