Kelsey
I walked into school not caring about the stares people gave my eye. I heard whispers like 'omg what happened to her eye?' Or 'is she ok?' Etc.  This morning, I looked into the mirror and saw my eye was worse than yesterday even though we put the ointment on it. My eye was different shades of blacks, blues, purples, and even some yellows. I didn't bother to cover it up with make up because I didn't care anymore.

Walking down the hall, I saw Ethan and Grayson talking with Sahar at her locker. Walking to my locker silently, they stopped talking. Sahar turned towards me and rubbed my shoulder softly as she smiled, or smiled somewhat from what I could see from the corner of my eye. I pushed her hand off my shoulder and continued grabbing my things.
"Are you okay Kels?" Sahar asked softly while Ethan and Grayson stood there desperately.
I turned to them fully, letting them see my eye making Sahar gasp and Ethan look down in shame with Grayson rubbing his back.
"Do I LOOK ok?" I said slamming my locker shut making people turn their heads and the three in front of me jump.

Ethan looked up at me painfully while looking at my eye. I walked towards him until I was chest to chest with him. He looked up, trying not to look at me. I grabbed his chin forecefully while sill looking at him. I made him look at my eye. He winced once he saw the colors that surrounded my eye disgustingly.
"Just remember you caused this sweetheart." I said sarcastically letting go of his chin and storming through his and Grayson's shoulders.

Speeding between crowds, my chest rose up and down heavily. I was looking for my special place I go to outside when everybody is in class. The ear-piercing dings of the bell signaling it was class time went off. The halls started the get clear and I then caught a glimpse of the special doors to the rooftop of the school.

Thrashing the door open, I ran up the flights of stairs while my asthma was starting to kick in. I had made it up one flight finally but now I had just another. I put my hand on my chest and walked up the last few steps until I reached the door. I quietly opened the door making sure it didn't creak and I saw the beautiful sun shining through the peak of the trees.

I walked cautiously to the edge of the building, looking down at the bright green grass that laid beneath the overhang of the school building. Letting my feet free fall of the edge, I looked out into the horizon. The end of the sunrise was a mix of bright yellows and even some pinks and purple. I remember my secret stash of blankets and pillows I kept behind a air conditioning vent only a few steps behind me.

I smiled as I ran behind the air vent grabbing the big purple pillows and the brown blankets. I walked back over to the ledge and set the pillow right on the piece of demented that held me up from the ground below. Laying my blanket out nicely, I sat in my stomach with my elbows in the pillow supporting my head.

I found this place a year ago, when I was trying to get away from some girls that had been teasing me about whatever. I remember the gleam I must've had in my eyes once I saw the sunrise perfectly set behind the dark evergreen trees of the forest that laid behind the school yard. This was my special place and not even Sahar and Olivia knew about it, and I plan to keep it that way. Up here, I can do whatever I please. If I bring my phone I could listen to music, if I brought my book bag, I could homework tag I hadn't done the night before. This place was the only spot in school that made me feel happy and free again.

I folded my elbows down and rested my chin on the tops of my hands. I closed my eyes and let the memories flow through my mind.

Flashback to Freshman Year

"Leave me alone Molly!" I shouted at the fake girl that stood in front of me.
"Go ahead and run away crybaby!" Molly pointed at me laughing with her friends Natalie and Rebecca.

I shook my head vigorously as I turned the corner and saw a door that I had never seen before. I furrowed my eyebrows and started walking slowly to the mystery door. I heard Molly's obnoxious snickers faint as I walked farther away from the girl who had been teasing me since third grade.

Opening the door, I saw a flight of stairs that I assumed connected to another flight. Huffing, I started my jog up the oddly steep staircases that made me loose breath every time I moved my torso.

Finally making it to the top of both cases wheezing, I pushed open the door being greeted by the rays of the sunrise. I smiled as I pushed open the door even more and fully exposing myself to the soft rays of lights.

Walking over to the ledge, I carefully let my feet dangle as I sat down with my back hunched over. I stared into the sun that was barely blocked by the dark trees that had grown on many acres. I felt a warm tear roll down my cheek as I remembered all the things Molly has teased me about. She's teased me about EVERYTHING, she made fun of how I look, she teased me about how my moms always gone due to her job, but what got to me most is she teased me about my father....

I broke down crying as I let the tears roll down my oddly big cheeks. I smiled sadly as I looked out into the horizon. I closed my eyes and listen to the birds chirp a special song that only they knew. If you listened close enough, you could hear the crickets communicating with their own language.

Slowly, I opened my eyes and felt calm again. I no longer felt the tears rolling down my cheeks. I smiled as I looked down at the grass below, then back up to the suns now blinding rays.

This place made me feel calm. This place on the top made me feel happiness when I can't find it. This is my special place....

End of Flashback

I opened my eyes once again, feeling that it was time to go back to class. Standing up, I grabbed the blankets and pillows and put them back into their spot. Opening the door, I looked back and smiled at the sun. My safe place....

Walking into Mr. Harrison's class, everyone's eyes were on me, including the person I despised the most at the moment, Ethan. I smiled sweetly at the teacher as he smiled back continuing his lesson on how the human body works. I looked at the only open seat in the class which happened to be between Sahar, Grayson, and Ethan.

I rolled my eyes and flared my nostrils as I sat down taking out my science notebook.
"Psst." I heard faintly. I raised my brow as I kept jotting down the notes that were up on the bored.
"Psssst." I heard again, this time more loud. Still though, I ignored it.
"Psssssst." I heard AGAIN which made my head snap to the person who had been trying to whisper to me, Sahar.
"Where were you the first thirty something minutes of class?" She said upset.
"No where. I just went somewhere to calm down for a bit." I said softly smiling as I looked into her big brown eyes that held so much care.
She nodded her head unsurely as she went back to her work.

Quickly finishing the last work Harrison wrote down, I put my pencil in the dip on the desk and set my elbow up so I could rest my head in my hand and stare out the window. A pair of hazel brown eyes watched me intently and those eyes belonged to Ethan. He looked at me pleadingly as I rolled my eyes urning back to the bored.
"Kelsey." I heard the voice of the person I currently hated the most.
I turned my head to the side giving him my full attention.
"What Ethan?" I said with anger laced in my voice.
"I-I-." He stuttered as he tried to spit out some words.
"Just leave me alone Ethan. You've caused enough damage." I said shaking my head as I drew the picture Harrison had drew on the bored.

This was going to be a longgggggg day.
