Once upon a time, there was a puppeteer named Geppenty. He wanted to have a son so badly, to the point of carving one of his own. He named him Petenocchio.

One night, Geppenty wished on a star to make his puppet become a real boy. With that, he went to sleep.

That evening, Petenocchio was resting on the woodcutter's table. The star Geppenty wished on grew brighter and brighter, and Roger Daltrey the Blue Fairy came down upon the house.

"I heard Geppenty's wish," he said, "I'm going to make you a real boy!"

Roger waved his wand in front of Petenocchio, and the puppet started moving. "Hey, I can move!" he said. "I'm a real boy!"

"Not yet," Roger replied. "You have to prove yourself brave, truthful and unselfish, and only then you can become a real boy."

He handed out a cricket to help him. "This is Jimoonie Cricket," he said. "He will be your conscience. He will help you decide what is right and wrong."

Petenocchio held Jimoonie in his hands. "Thank you, Blue Fairy!" he said. Roger the Blue Fairy disappeared and went back to the sky.

Geppenty woke up, thinking he heard some noise. He saw his puppet moving and knew it was Petenocchio. The two of them were very happy and went to sleep together.

The next day, Geppenty prepared Petenocchio to go to school.

"Why am I going to school, dad?" the puppet asked.

"You go to school to learn stuff," Geppenty replied. "Now don't forget your money! It's for buying snacks."

"I won't, dad!" Petenocchio said. "Bye, dad!" Geppenty waved back.

"My first day of school is exciting!" Petenocchio said, striding down the street.

As Petenocchio went to school, he accidentally bumped on someone. "I'm sorry, sir," he apologized.

"No, it's fine," the person replied. "By the way, where are you going, young man?"

"To school," Petenocchio innocently replied.

"Well, why would you go to school, when you can be an excellent actor? There's this director I know who's really good. His name is Strombozzy."

Petenocchio thought about it. "Well, I don't know--"

"Listen, young man. School is full of hardship and labor. But when you can go to Strombozzy's theater, you can live the easy life!"

Petenocchio paused for a while. "Okay," he finally said. "I'll come with you!"

He started to walk forward but was stopped by the person. "That would be five cents, please."

Petenocchio reached his pocket and gave the person his money. The person greedily accepted it, and they strolled off.

---

While Petenocchio and the person were walking to Strombozzy's theater, Jimoonie Cricket just woke up. He was shocked to see Petenocchio going the wrong way.

"Petenocchio, where are you going?" he asked. "And who's this person with you?"

"I don't know, but he said he will take me to Strombozzy's theater," the puppet replied.

"You're supposed to be going to school, young man!"

"Who are you talking to?" the person asked.

"Oh, I'm talking to Jimoonie, my conscience." Petenocchio held Jimoonie so the person could see him.

The person laughed. "That's just an insect, boy. You're hearing stuff." He flicked Jimoonie off Petenocchio's hands.
