Luna

I CLOSED MY window curtains quickly before I shakily called Carlton.

"Carlton?! I-I know it is really close to c-curfew, but my father is dead. I c-can't call the police because y-you know they won't do anything. I-I just don't k-know what to d-do. He's going to t-turn a-a-and I'm freaking out-"

"Wait, what?! What happened!?" He shouted through the phone. I could hear him moving quickly, then keys jiggling.

"I was f-finishing my homework, then I-I was wondering where he w-was so I looked around f-for h-him. H-his car is in the driveway, b-but I didnt hear him come h-home. He's laying on h-his b-bed covered in blood-"

"I'm on my way. Don't leave the house and lock your door, I'll be there in five," I heard the sound of his car door shutting, then the line went dead. I quickly went to my door, locking it, then I went to the other side of my room, waiting for Carlton.

It didn't take long for him to text me and tell me he was here. I ran out my room, almost tripped down the stairs, and threw the door open for him. As soon as we saw each other we gave each other a tight hug. I started crying all over again, on the verge of having a mental breakdown. We pulled apart from each other and he closed the door, locking it.

"Thank you so much for coming so close to curfew. I just didn't know what to do a-and I'm so scared," I barely got out. Carlton wiped my tears with his thumbs and pulled me into another hug, stroking my hair down my back to calm me down.

"Of course I came. If it were me you would too." Carlton put his hands on my shoulders, looking me in my puffy eyes. "I have to see if he's actually dead."

"No, no, no, no, what if he wakes up and tries to kill you?" I rushed out, shaking my head in disapproval.

"We have to make sure-"

"But how are we going to tell if he's dead or undead?" My question sounding more of a sqeak.

"Just trust me," he says as he brings me upstairs.

"Stay in your room-"

"Are you insane?! He could kill you!!" I whisper yelled at him once we stood outside my father's door.

"If anything bad happens you'll be safe-"

"I'm not letting you go in alone-"

"Luna," Carlton growled, causing me to stare wide eyed at him for a moment. He never did that before, but I hope he never does it again. That growl actually made me fear him more than my father for a moment. He stared back at me, his eyes softening once he realised he scared me. "Please," he added. I gave him a small hug, then I rushed to my room and waited as I sat on my bed. I fiddled with my fingers, knowing that this was a bad idea to go through with. I was just about to get up and get him when he quickly came into my room, slamming the door behind him.

I jumped at the sound, "are you okay? What happened?"

"He's turning, Luna," he stated, pacing around my room with his hand tugging at his hair. My breath caught in my throat. I didn't know what news would be worse: hearing that my father was dead, or that he's going to be undead.

"What are we going to do? We're going to die if we stay here, and curfew-" I was interrupted by the blasting cry of the sirens, indicating that curfew was in effect now. I cursed under my breath, "I'm so sorry I got you into this, Carlton. You could die because of me and your mother is probably freaking out and-"

"Luna, stop. I came here on my own, and no one else is going to die tonight. Why don't you just sleep and I'll take watch, okay?" Carlton said as he guided me to my bed.
