Emma POV

It was the start of the new school year. And for me, it was not only the first day of the new year but the first day at my new school.

Before moving to Queens. Before New York. There was only Chicago. Now the adjustment to a city wasn't a problem, I used to take the train to school. So this was no problem. It was the higher levels of crime, seeing as this is where the Avengers fought against aliens years ago.

"Emma," My mom called from in the living room.

I crawled out of bed. My blonde hair a complete mess. I stand up and look at my vanity. I had a limited time to make this work.

"Better hurry," My mom continued.

I brushed my hair. Seemingly managing to correct the errors my tossing and turning caused over night. I went through boxes marked clothes, since I was far too lazy to finish unpacking, until I found something.

Deciding on what I thought was the perfect look for school, I looked at myself one last time. I was wearing a vintage Star Wars t-shirt with a black hoodie over top since it might be chilly, black skinny jeans, and white converse.

I left my room to enter the living room of our apartment in Queens.

"I'm up and ready, mom." I spoke to her.

My mom turned to me, "Darling you're going to wear that on your first day?"

I nod and grab a piece of toast, "Yes. I am going to make an impression." I grin.

"Yes, an impression alright," My mom wasn't too thrilled though, "What about the blue sundress I bought you last week?"

I frown, "A sundress to school? Mom, it's public school." I said then took a bit.

My mom never understood my interest in syfy "nonsense" in her mind. She didn't understand my interest in superheroes. She didn't understand why I thought of Tony Stark as an evolutionary genius.

"Maybe you can wear a different shirt." My mom said.

Groaning I look at my phone, "Can't. I have a train to catch." I reach for my backpack and was about to bolt out of the room.

"Em, wait-." My mom caused me to pause, "I won't be home when you get back. But your father will be."

I nod, "Okay. Have a good day." I smile.

"You too," My mom said.

I exit my apartment. I head down the stairs and as I was doing so, I pulled out my real old MP3 player. I remember kids at my old school giving me crap at how old it was. I scrolled through my playlist thinking about what to play, when my finger clicked on the right one.

Mr. Blue Sky.

I jam to the retro vibe of the music as I walked up to get to my station to board the train. I glance to my right and noticed a guy standing nearby. He was waiting for the train as well. He looked close to my age.

I decided to look away before it got weird. I glance around to watch for the train and then I noticed the same guy poking my shoulder.

I jumped, "Ah-!" I yelled.

He seemed to have an apologetic expression on his face, "Sorry- Sorry. You uh- dropped this." I glanced to his hand and noticed my wallet had fallen out of my pocket.

"Oh my god, thank you." I said.

He smiles at me, "I didn't take anything from it." He said.

I take it from him, "You go to school nearby?" I ask him.
