Something to Nothing

Chapter Two

My eyes flutter open and I find myself in a place I do not know. There are trees around me and a fire in front of me. Crickets are chirping in the distance. The sky is gray and thunder rumbles in the distance. I sit up and look down. I find I am wrapped in what looks to be some sort of blanket. The blanket is made out of grass and bark that was weaved together. I am barefooted and besides the blanket, I am wearing nothing but my undergarments and a necklace. No, not a necklace, the necklace.

  I recall going down a road after my friend. Suddenly being dragged away by some creature, but the creature must have been a human. It talked of strange things. I remember it pulling out a necklace, the one I now have on, and putting it on my neck. Then is disappeared and out of nowhere a huge bright light. I thought it was all a dream, but it is all too real right now.

  I hear the fire crackle and then footsteps as something draws close to me. I look aside and see a figure. It sees me and turns, running back to where it came from. That is strange. A moment later it returns followed by two others. I see there are two males and one female. They have short black hair and bright green eyes. As they come closer I notice something strange about them. They have wings, a tail, and spikes down their backs. They look at me and turn to each other. They begin to speak in whispers.

  One of the boys states, "I told you the girl was awake."

  "Do you think it is a girl?" The other boy asks.

  "Of course it is a girl, stupid. Just look at it." The girl hisses.

  "Yeah, but do you think she is a girl, like human?" The boy explains.

  "Probably." The other boy answers.

  "Should we try to communicate with her?" The girl inquires.

  I speak up. "Excuse me."

  They all turn to me, surprised to hear me speak. They all glance at each other.

  "Can you tell me who you are and where I am?" I ask.

  The girl steps forward. "You are in our world."

  "Your world?"

  "Yes." One of the boys tells me, stepping closer.

  The other boy comes forward as well. He looks to the others. They seem to communicate with their eyes. They all turn to me.

  "We are the Trespassing Three. You trespass into our world, you deal with us. Answer our riddle correctly, you can go, but answer wrong and to the grave you go." They announce at once.

  I back away from them.

  I blurt out, "Wait, please. I don't know what has happened. Please, help me."

  Everything is quiet. The fire crackles behind the Trespassing Three. They turn their heads and blow fire out at it. The fire flares up and lights the area even more brightly than before. The girl looks at me. She then pushes the boys away and again they start to speak in whispers.

  "How does she not know where she is? Why isn't she scared of us? Doesn't she know who we are?" The girl asks.

  One of the boys responds. "Maybe she hasn't read the legends."

"Or she has and does not believe in them." The other notes.

  The girl glances over her shoulder at me. "No. That can't be. She must not know them. How did she get here then?"

  I look away and glance down at the necklace which begins to glow blue. I recall a blue light coming from nowhere. It must have been the stone. The Trespassing Three turn when they see the light.
