Eventually, I'm able to distract myself from the odd question. I open my Steam account and launch one of the less frightening horror games I have in my library. There are a couple of minor spooks, but nothing major.
After a moment, my laptop screen glitches for a moment and I sense Anti appear behind me. I lose focus on the game for a moment, and the game isn't forgiving. Since I'd had the volume in my headphones turned pretty loud, I jump and my chair consequently almost falls over. While I jump off of it, I almost fall back onto Anti, narrowly missing him and righting myself. I look back at the screen, which informs me that I've lost.
"Well, I guess I'm back to square one." I glance back at him curiously, but don't say anything else. I set my chair upright and sit back down, starting the level again.
Anti's eyes burn a hole in the back of my head as I complete the part of the game I'd worked on. For about ten minutes, I sit in silence, trying to ignore him. Finally, after the next failure, I sigh and turn around.
"Why are you sitting here staring at me? It's not like you actually need the energy, and this game isn't that scary."
He merely shrugs and places his hands behind his head, laying back on my bed. I roll my eyes and get up, standing over him with my arms crossed. Anti's eyes are closed, but I can tell that he knows I'm there.
"Could you leave, then? You're making me nervous."
Anti smirks and opens a single green eye, giving me a curious look. "Why's that?"
"Do I need to spell this out for you every time? It's because you always do something. Freak me out with 'souvenirs', threaten people's lives–"
"You did that, last time."
"–Recently, you've just flirted shamelessly. I feel like that's significant reason to be wary."
Anti opens both eyes, staring at me intently. My stomach twists a bit in apprehension. His eyes close again and I relax a bit.
"Would you at least get off of–"
His eyes snap back open as he tugs me onto the bed beside him. One of his arms is under me and wraps around my waist. The other is on top of me and meets the other to keep me still. Though I don't tense, my stomach twists. He seems content with my inaction.
"You're not resisting."
"I've accepted my fate."
"You're warming up to me."
"I could say the same about you."
Anti shrugs and hums in admittance, pulling me closer to him. My head rests on the inner part of his shoulder, almost on his chest. I'm turned slightly toward him.
"You're not as boring as other humans," he says.
"Thanks, I guess."
We sit in silence for a bit. Summer has heated my room to an unnecessary level, and the coolness of Anti's body is comforting. Laying on him is oddly comfortable, and I can't help but relax in his arms. Again, he seems satisfied with my compliance. I don't fall asleep, but I do sit half-consciously. My fatigue has only become apparent during the day, which is a bit curious. Anti really is affecting me.
He sits still, as well, probably lost in his own thoughts. Eventually, I fall sleep, subconsciously surprised that I was able to do so in his arms.
I don't know how long we've been sitting there when I jolt from the sound of my phone going off. My arm, whether of my own unconscious volition or because of Anti's doing, lays on top of his chest and I'm turned a bit more toward him. I look up at him, finding that he hasn't noticed my waking.
Though I want to check my phone, Anti's arm lays on top of mine and my other arm can't reach the pocket it's in. I sigh and glance back down at the brightened cloth of my pocket, illuminated from within. Soon, the light fades and I'm left to wonder what the notification was. I look back up at him, noticing how much less... excessively violent he seems.
I situate myself comfortably again and let him rest. Anti has a short enough temper when he's energetic and awake. I don't even want to know what he's like when he's woken up before he's ready. Even I can get a bit testy if I'm woken up before eight.
After a couple minutes, Anti stirs. Glancing up, I find that his eyes snap open. He looks down at me.
"How long have you been awake?"
I shrug. "Couple minutes, I guess. Can you get your arm off of my arm so I can check my phone?"
Anti lifts his arm slightly and I grab my phone from my pocket. I grab my phone and unlock it. It was a text notification from Ryna. Opening it, I stifle a laugh, causing Anti to look down at my phone curiously. I show him the screen.
Ryna: thanks for helping me out. really.
He gives a laugh as well, and I can hear it resonating in his chest.
"More like 'thanks for almost stabbing me'," I joke.
"Fundamental moments in your journey to become a mass murderer."
"Who says I wanna be a mass murderer?" I hold my phone on my chest with both hands, defensively.
"At least go for a part-time serial killer."
"How about... no. I'm not gonna do that, Anti. Sorry to disappoint."
Anti shifts to lean over me, using the arm he had underneath me to pull me under him. He places a hand under my chin and leans over me so that our lips are less than an inch apart.
"You'll change your mind eventually."
"No, I don't think I will," I say, happy that I didn't stumble over my words.
My stomach twists, but I don't blush anywhere near as much as I used to. I've become a bit more accustomed to Anti's new attitude – comfortable, even. So comfortable that, despite his proximity and position, I'm able to give him a soft, but confident, smile.
He's surprised by this, but it only takes a second for him to recover. "Confident, are we? No warm cheeks, no stuttering... Guess I'll have to try harder."
With that, he roughly presses his lips against mine. Against my will, my cheeks heat up a bit. We're close enough that I know Anti can tell. He smirks into the kiss, but doesn't break away. My hands clench my phone tightly. The only space between us is created by my arms in front of me, but Anti quickly remedies that. He grabs my wrists and – breaking the kiss for a moment to give me a devilish smirk and marvel at my warm face – holds my arms above me. The instant my arms are out of the way, our lips are together again. His grip on my wrists tightens as time progresses.
It feels like an eternity and an instant before Anti breaks away again. A grin spreads across his face as he surveys my heated cheeks. He keeps his face only inches from mine, heterochromia eyes glowing. I turn away from him. For once, Anti doesn't force me to look him in the eyes.
"My confidence wasn't a challenge," I mumble.
"Still no stuttering, but warm cheeks. Good enough."
I roll my eyes. "Will you let me go?"
"Fine." Anti releases my wrists and moves so that he isn't looming over me, anymore. I let out a breath and get up to head downstairs, heart still beating a million times per second.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter of "Plaything" as much as I enjoyed writing it. Comments and votes are super appreciated. Thanks for reading! ~Blue
