I read High Fidelity on the recommendation of my Dad. Needless to say, it is awkward to have your Dad recommend a book which spends large amounts of time talking about sex. That said, it is an enormously readable book. It's funny and grounded, an uplifting story about the redeeming powers of music and love, which somehow never feels cheesy.
Rob is an ideal protagonist. He is awkward and flawed, yet fundamentally likable. This is where Hornby has really excelled; none of his characters are without their quirks and imperfections, but they all have something to offer to the story. Every character feels like a real person.
It is also a wonderful read for a music lover. As someone who is starting to get into the alternative side of music, the book introduced me to Jesus and The Mary Chain, and The Lemonheads, and there are lots of other artists mentioned too.
Although it is, first and foremost, a love story, High Fidelity is an interesting and funny look at what really matters in life and what it means to be successful, with a great soundtrack.

Book Reviews
Non-FictionCarried over from my Tumblr, this is a personal project tracking what I read through time, largely because of my awful memory. These aren't long reviews, but the books are varied, and the opinions are honest, so I hope you enjoy.
