Chapter 25

"Are you sure this will work?" He asked, a note of uncertainty in his voice. Midna scoffed,

"You're not backing out now, are you?" She asked, latching the saddle bag on his horse. He looked around. They had agreed to meet on the outskirts of town at midnight, so the likelihood of anyone seeing them was low, but he was still anxious. The captain would surely lock him away if he knew what the plan was,

"How did you learn about this sorcerer, anyway?" Are you sure we can trust him?" Midna turned and looked at him quietly for a moment, before stepping towards him,

"You can trust me, and that's all you need to worry about, ok? I wouldn't lead you into anything dangerous. By tomorrow night, all of this will be behind you. What do you want to do with your life?" She asked softly, her hand on his shoulder. He thought for a moment, before smiling shyly,

"I want to get away from here, and there's someone I hope would come with me." She grinned back,

"Of course! Once we put the past where it belongs, I'll gladly follow you anywhere, so let's go! Hurry up, Link." She said with a giggle, turning back towards the horse. He chuckled,

"You sound like an excited pet." He teased, walking past her. She stopped, a thoughtful expression on her face,

"Weird how things have changed." She said quietly,

"Hmm?" He asked as he mounted, not fully catching what she said. A smirk replaced her expression as she reached out her hand for him to pull her up. As soon as she was seated behind him she brought her lips to his ear,

"I said that explains why I'm into doggy sty-"

"OK! Let's go!" Link interjected loudly, flicking the reins. Midna leaned back with a giggle as his face turned beat red.

The desert stretched out in front of them, with mountains in the distance being the only break in the horizon. Hoof beats echoed against the cracked earth, and after his complexion regulated, he turned his face towards her,

"I think this is the first time you've been speechless." She brushed his hair away from his ear,

"Why do you have a second earring on this side?" She asked, ignoring his comment. He wracked his brain, but of course came up with nothing,

"No idea." He said simply. He felt a tug as she removed the gold earring, tossing it over her shoulder,

"That's better." She said with a giggle. He smiled before turning back,

"Please tell me the scenery in Herule is better than this." She giggled,

"Hyrule is more diverse than this land." She said simply, looking up at the star-dusted sky. He sensed her hesitance on the subject, but he couldn't help but continue to push. The land intrigued him,

"In what way?"

"There is a desert, but it has long been blocked off from civilian eyes. There's also forests and mountains and lakes. There's many more people too." She said after a moment,

"Is that where you grew up?" He asked. He didn't really know that much about her,

"No."
