Anna plopped down into the passengers side of her mother's car. She reads the back of the book again and then opens it. Chapter 1 starts out as: "Allison!" A voice rang from downstairs. Allison got up groggily and headed down the stairs. Allison Way was a 16 year old girl who was quite unexceptional. She was just like any other girl at school.

So far the book was pretty good. Even though she was only on page 1.

Her mother dropped her off at the house and went back to work.

The house was dark and it has a weird smell in it. Anna walked into the kitchen and flicked on the lights. She set her books on the table and slipped her art bag off her shoulder.

She peered into the pantry to look for some lunch. There weren't many options to choose from: Bagel, noodle bowl, tuna sandwich, or macaroni and cheese.

Anna reluctantly grabs a Big Bowl of Noodles noodle bowl and heats it up.

Anna goes into the living room and turns on the tv. Even though she has no interest in watching the news, sometimes it helps her think.

She sat down on the couch with her noodle bowl. The bowl warmed her hands and sent shivers down her spine each time she took a bite.

Once Anna finished her lunch, she went upstairs to her room, carrying her two books in hand.

Anna sat at the desk beside her open windows. Her room was neat and orderly with few possessions in sight. Her bed was made and her room was cleaned. She turns on the desk lamp and begins to look at the book Ian had given her. The cover of the book was just plain black with "Real" scrolled across the top in silver letters.

She looked through the first couple of pages and noticed that they were myths. Myths about werewolves, vampires, fairies, and wizards.

She turned back to the first page and read it. There was a severe looking werewolf on the top of the page. It read: "Lycanthropes (Li-can-th-ropes) born or cursed with the ability to transform into a werewolf. Half demon half human, Lycanthropes are vulnerable to silver. Once a Lycanthrope has learned to control their ability, he shall only truly transform on the night of a full moon. Ever since the old days werewolves have had a common enemy with vampires. Not all wolf packs stay together but you can be sure when in a time of war with vampires, no wolf hurts another. In order to become a werewolf, you must cross paths with a werewolf and be bitten by it. However, this does not work all the time."

The next was vampires. This took up two entire pages. The first was the myth information. "Children of the Night." Pale skin, hungry for blood, dead, abilities are increased: strength, sight, hearing, speed, ect. There are a number of ways to kill a vampire. Stake through the heart, drain blood, cut of head and burn to death, and expose to sunlight.

The second page was about the the rebirth of vampires. "Once the mundane has been bitten, they lose life fast. They are dead and become fledglings. In order to rebirth the vampire, you must dig a shallow grave in which the fledgling can dig through. You bury the body in the grave and cover it. Be sure to do this before dawn or else the fledgling will not survive. There will be a necessary supply of blood due to the drain of all blood in the body.

The next two pages were about warlocks and fairies. The last page was about a myth Anna hasn't known about.

Wedged between the back cover and the last page was an old envelope creased in many places. Carefully, she took out the letter.

Inside there was creased, burned, old looking piece of paper. It was folded dozens of times. It smelled of ash and old parchment. Ink marked the surface of the paper. Anna realized that the letter was a map. A map of Manhattan.
