harry had not stopped talking about louis since he had last seen him. he constantly talked about him to his mum, to which anne thought of it as amusing, and he'd always bring him up in his talks with liam.

"he is cool!" he bragged to his friend during recess. liam nods not paying attention to what harry had to say as he had noticed everything that they talked about would be about the louis kid he never even met. he sometimes even thought he was fake.

"like he 'elped me build my legos again! he called me his friend," he continued smiling brightly looking at his classmates who all chased each other at a game of tag.

liam rolls his eyes, a habit his mother tried to get rid of, as he says, "stop talking about him!"

harry quiets down immediately. the twinkle in his eyes gone and replaced with curiosity, "why?"

he gets up from his seat, annoyance written in his little face as his hands started forming a fist. "all you talk about is him. i bet he's not even real."

"uh huh," harry says crossing his arms, "yes he is. mummy is friends with his mummy."

liam shakes his head, "so? that doesn't mean he is friends with you. i'm your only friend."

"he my friend," harry blubbers trying not to cry at liam's words. harry was always delicate when dealing with his feelings. he couldn't handle someone saying horrible things towards him. he needed protection not destruction you could say.

"harry," liam sighs, "i'm your friend. he's not. he's bigger 'an you."

harry nods feeling like there was really no point in arguing. he knew louis was older. he knew he would rarely see him because of it too. he knew that louis had only called him his friend because he had was leaving and possibly just wanted to be polite. harry felt like an idiot. even though, he didn't even know the meaning of the word, idiot, at all.

"let's go inside h, maybe we can play connect four?" he doesn't even think about louis calling him 'h' earlier this week. it was like all his love for louis had vanished into thin air with the truth liam's words held.

through the whole school day, harry had not participated at all. not like usual where he would normally be the first one to raise his hands. his thoughts were in the middle of the ring. where there was one side telling him that louis indeed was his friend while the other agreed with liam and called louis a liar for raising harry's hopes up high.

because liam was right. before louis, and even after louis, liam was and still is his only friend. liam being a year older and having to repeat a year began talking to harry on the first day of school. harry, being shy, did not interact with the rest which didn't help in making other friends. he always stuck with liam till this day, and sometimes he was happy for it.

"harry!" suddenly mrs. ferguson says bringing harry back from his train of thoughts. he had realized he had zoned out and his cheek covered in saliva. he notices how everyone had already left, even liam, which meant harry was alone with the teacher.

"is something bothering you?" she asks frowning as she keeps her eyes on harry.

"no," harry lies getting up from his seat quickly bumping into the desk besides him. if you hadn't notice, he was extremely clumsy as a kid.

he doesn't acknowledge the teacher as he walks by her with his backpack in his hand. as soon as he steps out he limps to find his mother. he finds her quickly and tells her to not ask questions.

"but harry what happened?" she kisses his head giving him a hug.

"nothing," harry responds beginning to walk the direction of their building. lucky for them, it was only two blocks away.

"did you have fun today?"

"it's school mummy," harry says shaking his head.

anne laughs, "i know baby. but sometimes it can be fun."

"mmh ok," he says dismissively. he did not feel like talking at the moment at all but anne was just not getting it as when they entered their apartment she asks, "do you want me to make you some mac & cheese?"

"i don't 'are," he replies not looking back at his mum. the least he expected was for anne go grab his arm stopping him from walking.

"you stop that right now," anne warns, "here i am trying to be a good mum asking how your day was and here you are not even noticing my efforts." her voice quivers as she tried not to bawl out cry in front of the five year old. but she had a tiring day like usual filled with so much stress and she wasn't about to continue supporting his moody state.

"you don't know what's it like to be 'ive!" harry shouts completely changing the subject, he was not so good at keeping his tears in. he had held them in the entire day and hearing his mum's words just broke him entirely.

"you don't 'ow what's it like to 'ave only one friend!" he cries his knees giving up landing on the floor. anne breaks down too, seeing her son in this state broke her heart.

"what about louis? he's your friend," she cries hugging him tightly. she feels him shake his head.

"only liam. liam's my friend, that's it."
