The idea of one woman carrying the fate of every living creature caused the three men to stare at her in shock. How was it even possible? One person being able to save billions of others? Without a worry?
It seemed too good to be true.
But it would have to suffice.
She was their only hope.
"I never thought I would fall into some type of luck," Tony mumbled. He stood beside (Y/N) inside of her make-shift home. His eyes scanned around every corner, searching for something, but what?
(Y/N) looked up at him, an eyebrow raised, "You thought it was impossible, too?"
"What?"
"To defeat Thanos."
Sighing, Tony took a step back. He'd discarded his technological suit of armor a few days previously, hands now rested in his pockets and he stared at the ground in dismay.
"Where I come from, hope is a strange thing."
"What do you mean?"
"On Earth, there is little hope for anything. Everyday civilians go through torment with hope that one day it will be rid of," His eyes looked over to hers, a bleak expression on his face, "Saving every living thing," He let out a small huff resembling an abrupt chuckle, "How could I have hope in that?"
A small, reassuring smile fell across (Y/N)'s lips. Walking to him, she placed a hand on his left shoulder, "In Titan, we believe all things come with hope," She gestured toward their surroundings, "Can you not see? This planet knew it had died a long time ago and yet—with hope—it has sustained."
"Because of you."
She nodded, "But not only because of me," Her hand fell from his shoulder and she clasped them behind her back, "But because I have had so much hope in this place. This is my home, Tony. I would do anything to keep it flourishing. Wouldn't you do the same for yours?"
Thinking, Tony realized that that is what he'd always been doing. His main focus had always been on the people. He'd never thought of anything opposite to it. Humanity was one of the biggest responsibilities a man could have, but not a day had ever gone by where he hadn't considered the fact that he believed in the ability to live; the ability to thrive just as Titan.
"Ya know," He broke the silence, "Earth could use somebody like you."
"Why do you say that?"
"Your dedication is inspiring. Earth would benefit from your optimism."
Her eyes showed her quizzical expression, "Does Earth not have optimism of its own?"
He shook his head, "Not entirely. We have become so desensitized to life-threatening problems that this fight would prove unnecessary. Instead, we would wait for it to happen. And even if a loss were to occur, every human would be immune to it."
"Earth must not love itself then," She stated with a rather sorrowful tone, "Without the reality of possible death hitting them with shock, it seems impossible for a planet like that to thrive."
The two stood in silence for a while. (Y/N) went back to rummaging and cleaning her shack and Tony remained stationary; thoughts of losing his loved ones and costing the Avengers as well as the rest of space a huge price lay vivid in his mind.
Maybe (Y/N) was right.
Hope is all you need.
The one thing that humans lacked, she possessed.
In fact, everything she possessed the humans lacked.
Tony had never surrounded himself with so much optimism before. The fact that the fate of his home rested in (Y/N)'s palms did not frighten him because of it.
"You're not an accessory, ya know," Tony mumbled, watching her as she moved around the hut, "Regardless as to whether or not you would have told us about your powers, you still would have remained a great ally."
She smiled warmly, content with his words.
She knew that already.
She knew everything already.
