I sighed in frustration. It had been four hours since dinner and all I had done after taking a shower was lay on my bed, staring at my ceiling. The idea of course was to fall asleep, but I couldn't stop thinking about why Aiden withheld his pouvoir from me.
Was he embarrassed? Did he hate it? Did he just not want me to know? Does he hate me for some reason? Why was he there the day of my second vision?
I groaned, shaking my head and turning over in my bed so I lay on my stomach. It had been an extremely long week and all I wanted to do was sleep.
Then an idea came to me. I sighed again. There was no way I was going to sleep, so I might as well do something. However, if I got caught I was probably going to be in a lot of trouble.
I quietly hopped out of bed and slipped my shoes on. Grabbing my jacket, I draped it over my arm and slowly crept outside. I held my breath as I made my way to the elevator.
Adrenaline was now pumping through me and I had to work hard to keep my breathing quiet.
I pushed the button to open the doors of the elevator and looked over my shoulder nervously. I couldn't shake the feeling that this was a bad idea.
The elevator dinged and it sounded like an explosion in the quiet of the hallway. I winced and held my breath. No one came barreling in carrying guns, so I stepped onto the elevator.
The gentle elevator music did nothing to calm me. If anything, it only added to my nerves. My hand was fidgeting with a string from my jacket.
I stepped off the elevator in the third floor. The floor that the boys sleep on. I crept silently through the hall, praying that I wouldn't stumble in on anyone while they were awake.
'Maybe I should have waited until later when most people would be asleep.' I thought to myself.
I walked up to the first door and opened it silently. Fortunately it didn't squeak. I cautiously looked in and to my surprise, no one occupied the room.
I checked the next room. Nothing.
I checked the room beside the last one. As I opened the door, I could immediately tell something was different. There was a slight noise. I froze.
There was someone on the bed, their chest rising and falling in an even pattern. From the size and shape of the person, I could only guess it was Noah.
Part of me was relieved as I closed the door. There were only two boys and since I already found Noah asleep, the only person left would be Aiden. And I wanted to find him.
I turned and almost screamed. Directly in front of me stood the one and only Aiden. His cold blue eyes were staring me straight in the eye, his raven black hair fading into the background.
"What-what are you doing here?" I stuttered.
He looked down at me, his expression as emotionless as always. He raised an eyebrow and gave me a look that revealed his annoyance. "What are you doing here?" He retorted.
"I asked first." I stated defiantly, crossing my arms.
"I asked second." He replied.
I sighed and decided to just tell him. "I was looking for you."
His face showed nothing, but his eyes showed confusion. "Why?"
"I want to know why you were there the day of my last vision." I paused for a moment, "And I want to know what your pouvoir is and why you don't want me to know."
I didn't realize it, but sometime during our conversation I had taken a couple steps forward. I was now only a few inches away from him. The top of my head reached about an inch above his shoulder.
"I have my reasons for both of those." He stated calmly.
I let out an annoyed huff. "Why are you being so cryptic? Are you embarrassed or something?"
His eyes suddenly hardened. "I am not embarrassed. I just don't want to tell you."
"Well, you have to have a reason for that." I pushed.
Aiden's jaw clenched and he sighed deeply. I was obviously upsetting him. Then, almost randomly, he pivoted on his foot and turned the opposite way. He made it a few steps before I shook off the shock and followed him.
"Wait." I demanded, grabbing his forearm to twist him around to face me.
He tensed under my hand, but turned with little resistance.
"What do you want?" He grit out.
"I'm not leaving you alone until you give me answers." There was no room for arguing in my tone, but that didn't seem to phase Aiden.
"No." He said the word tersely.
It was my turn to grit my teeth in annoyance. "Come on. It can't be that bad. I won't tell anyone if that's what you're worried about."
He shook his head. His blue eyes seemed to glow in the dark.
I huffed. "Fine, but I'm going to find out. Whether you tell me or not." I left him standing in the hallway as I made my way to the elevator. I was going to try to get some sleep before I had to have my first test tomorrow.
But there was one thing that I was certain of. There was no way I was going to get any sleep with all the questions running around my mind.
