"So I'm a what?" I asked him once again. Plagg, the little black creature in my room rolled his eyes in exasperation.
"You're Cat Noir, the second superhero of Paris" he hovered lividly in front of me. His patience clearly wearing thin.
"And I help a girl named Wonder bug?" Plagg groaned in annoyance.
"LADYBUG!" he corrected, his raspy voice more of a hiss this time around.
"I'm sorry..." I apologized meekly. We had gone over this nearly a dozen times, it made sense that Plagg was irritated, but aside from the memory loss, I was having trouble remembering this new information. My head felt hazy and muddled, making it hard to concentrate.
"Look kid, I like you and all but you're really starting to irk me. Let's just get going, maybe being in a familiar environment will trigger something..." he muttered just before flying into my satchel. I nodded even though I knew he wouldn't see me. After a few seconds of hesitation, I picked up my bag and made my way out of the room. My heart-rate spiked when I noticed my Father was standing just outside my door.
"F-father...?" my voice wavered with surprise. It was strange for me to see him this early in the day, but his appearance was even stranger.
Father's pale hair was disheveled, with a few strands rebelling against the gel he normally wore. Dark rings encircled his eyes, as if he hadn't slept for days. His tie was undone and his blazer unbuttoned, giving him a messy appearance. "Father, are you okay...?" I asked, taking a concerned step in his direction.
"Adrien I..." he began but stopped fretfully, struggling with the words he wanted to use. "I'm sorry..." he uttered, barely loud enough for me to hear. "I'm so very sorry..." he said as his legs gave away beneath him.
"Father!" I knelt by his side as he wept pitifully. My heart raced with worry, I had only seen my Father cry once before.
"I thought I had lost you..." he sobbed as he wrapped his arms around me. My body tensed instinctively and my heart cringed with confusion. Just what exactly happened to elicit this sort of reaction from him? After an uncounted amount of time, he pulled away and studied my face. "Please say something..." he begged as he rested his hands on my shoulders. I stared at him wearily, confusion plastered over every inch of my face.
"Father I...." I began but trailed off when I realized I didn't know how to tell him.
"Son, do you....remember anything from last night?" he asked, his voice a bit steadier. I shook my head.
"No..." He cast his gaze down when my answer reached him. After another set of confusing seconds, he stood up and dusted himself off. I followed suit and stood awkwardly beside him as he fixed his jacket and tie.
"Very well..." he said as he turned around to leave.
"Father wait!" I called out to him, my hand extended. He glanced over his shoulder as he waited for me to speak. "Do you know, what happened to me last night? I can't seem to remember anything..." I trailed off.
"What is the last thing you remember...?" he asked without turning around.
"Begging you to let me attend regular school..." I trailed off softly. I saw the corner of his eye widen.
"That was more than a year ago..." he said as he turned to face me. My eyes widened when the weight of his words hit me. This time it was my legs that threatened to malfunction.
"A-a year...?" I repeated shakily as I glanced at my orange shoes.
"You were in an accident last night, it seems to have affected your memory. I will schedule a meeting with your doctor for later in the afternoon" he said as he pushed his glasses back on his nose. I was still struggling to steady my pulse. "Where are you headed to now?" He asked, eyeing my satchel suspiciously. "There's no school on Sundays..." I took in a deep shaky breath.
"I was going to head to the library. I was hoping that would trigger some memories..." He nodded coldly.
"Very well, I will ask your bodyguard to pull the car around" he said just before turning around and making his way back into the study.
