I was walking home when the creature crawled out of the sewer. I stared at the ghostly figure rising from the middle of the dilapidated street. The buildings lining the street were dark and empty, some were tilted dangerously.

The creature hadn't noticed me yet. Should I run? I wondered.

The creature saw me and started dragging itself across the street. It had one orange eye taking up most of its face. The jaws featured teeth as sharp as thorns.

It stopped and looked down at me. Long arms just barely scraped the ground. It breathed heavily, and I could smell blood and decay on its breath.

"Human..." it huffed. Shit, is tonight the night I'm going to die?

"Human... where is... the bus stop?"

Oh thank the gods. "It's around that corner back there." I pointed behind me. As brace as I wanted to sound, I couldn't stop my voice from wavering. "I don't know if any of the buses run at this hour, though."

"Mine does." The creature replied. "Thank you... human..."

It began to drag itself away, leaving a trail of dark liquid barely visible in the lamplight. I checked my watch, midnight. The hour of the Night City was upon us.

Time to go home. I started back to my apartment before any other nighttime residents asked for directions.
