Kirk stands in the heat of the sun.

He turns to us, and waves, signalling for us to come forward.

I creep forward in the car, Emily beside me.

"Where are we?"

I turn my head to watch Kevin sit up.

Judy still leans against her door, asleep.

"We're nearing the hospital, we had to take a major detour, so we'll be there within an hour at the most." Emily explains, shaking Judy awake.

"Huh?" she mumbles.

She rubs her eyes, and sits up, stretching.

"Stay here for a sec, I gotta check on Kirk, he's been acting strange."

"Stranger than usual?" Judy asks.

I climb out of the car, walking toward Kirk.

He stares down the road, at yet another crash site.

He turns when the gravel beneath my shoes crunch.

"Oh, hey."

"What's wrong? Ever since Shawn's execution, you haven't been the same."

He turns back to watch the crash site.

"I just haven't had the need to talk."

"Did you trust him? Did you think he was still human?"

"I trusted him. I remember the day he came in. He told me this story about how everything had gone downhill since his girlfriend had lost her first child. I've solved the puzzle, and he was talking about Emily."

"She's the good one out of the two, you know?"

"Yeah. But, how could I be so, inhumane?"

"What?"

He turns to me fully, frowning.

"You know what I mean. The execution."

Shawn steps onto the stage, in hand and feet cuffs. Kirk readies the chains.

Shawn stands between the poles either side of him, his arms up, and his legs spread. Kirk begins to attach the chains to his cuffed limbs.

The Freaks slowly stumble over, as Kirk rattles the chain loudly.

"Come get your meal!" he screams, punching Shawn in the face.

The whole town crowds around the gate, letting Kirk back inside, and watching as the Freaks climb the stage steps.

The only thing Shawn does in whimper in fear.

He knows what's coming, and he deserves everything he gets.

The Freaks stumble over to his suspended body, clawing at his flesh. He cries for help, as the pain increases. The Freaks tear into Shawn's body, blood splattering over everything, as Shawn falls silent, and still.

"Yeah, maybe we could've done something else to make him suffer. Did you get any answers from him at all?"

"Not really. He's arrogant and ignorant. He didn't care what happened to him, so before I took him to the stage I smashed a bottle over his head."

"Are you going to let anyone write his name on the wall? It's been a month since the execution."
