Prologue|All Gold
Eight Years Ago.
I can hear the melodic giggles coming from my parents bathroom. In the quiet of the morning, this sure was my favourite sound to hear. My mother was bathing my 2 year old brother who loved splashing water everywhere in the bathroom. If my mother ever got angry on his behaviour and would shout at him, he would extend his hand to her chest and place it there and leave a trail of giggles behind him. He was so much of an angel; my angel; my baby brother.
Without my knowledge, my legs took my there, the place where the giggles began. I quietly opened the door to the bathroom with acknowledgement. I could see my mother sigh and then smile in the direction of Landon. He was splashing water and playing with the foam in the bathtub like he always does. An instant and contagious smile lights up on his face when he looks at me and I can't help smiling either; my sleep filled form moving inside to help my mother get him out.
"Good morning, honey. Slept well?" My mother greeted me with a smile.
"I have y'all with me after all. How can I not sleep well?" I raised my eyebrows and smiled; rubbing my closed fist to my eyes, I rubbed out the sleep in them. My mother smiled back at me after hearing my comment.
"Good morning anyways." I smiled again and greeted.
"And good morning my naughty brat. Why are you troubling mommy?" I greeted Landon; catching his small baby face in my palms while I said the latter. He drew our another serie of giggles and chuckled too.
"Here, mom. I got him. I'll handle the rest. You can leave to make breakfast." I assured my mom; my hands holding Landon's.
"You sure, honey?" She asked me.
"I've been doing this for a while now, mom. Landon loves me." I spoke the latter proudly and then motioned for my mother to leave and she acknowledged it and started moving out.
"Oh, by the way, 1 week." She called from behind her. I started wondering one week for what. It wasn't like there was a week left for anyone's birthday and nor was there any anniversary.
"For what?" I called out to her instead of whacking my brains wondering why she told me that.
"One week. You've been handling Landon for only just one week." She replied and I could imagine the small smile playing on her lips.
"Mom!" I exclaimed grinning although she couldn't see me. I, then, poured some water down Landon's head and slowly got him out of the tub. He was grinning at me and poking my nose with his index finger like he does always. I carried him out on the dry surface slowly and made him stand and then proceeded to wipe of all the water from his tiny frame with a towel.
Landon was a healthy kid right from the time he was born. He had a wheat complexion where as mine was white and pale. He had amber eyes which complimented his skin colour where as mine was a pair of stormy gray orbs. He had a cute button nose with full cheeks and cute red lips. Landon inherited his nose and complexion from our mother. My cheeks were more sunken no matter how much I ate. I was just 8 years old now. So I was hoping that in the future, puberty should hit me well like how all the celebrities in Hollywood became pretty after they became big. I wanted to be pretty too.
