Cold and Distant

Hey there! This is my take on another Reddit story. It's not so different, I just added in some details. I think it has the same name too, though I'm not very sure. Anyway, hope you enjoy.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I take a deep, shaky breath as I sit down across the table from my wife. She stares at me with her pale, blue eyes. I sigh and give her my best sympathetic smile. She's been like this for the past six months. I can't stand it anymore.

"Babe, we need to talk." I start off. "I think it's time to end our marriage." She gives me no reply. I sigh again and reach out for her hands. They are cold, really cold.

I take a long look at her features. Her sharp cheekbones stand out against her pale skin. Her mouth hangs slightly open, as if she were about to say something. Her eyes seem to be staring straight ahead, not at me, but behind me. Why is she always like this?

"Baby, I'm so sorry," I say, in a pleading tone. "I love you so much, but you're so cold and distant lately." Still, I get no reply. I rub circles on her hands, hoping to warm them up.

"Maybe, just maybe, we could work this out. But..." I take another shaky breath "but I know you don't want to." I lean back on my chair and cover my eyes. I can't bear to see her like this anymore.

I let out a few, quiet sobs. What did I ever do to deserve this? I've always been a good husband. Why is she treating me like this now?

I rub away the tears and stand up slowly. I walk over to my wife's side and lay a hand on her shoulder. She does not move an inch. I sigh heavily, leaning in and pecking her cheek.

I move over to the sink, and wash my mouth. Rotting flesh has a particularly bad taste. I walk over to my wife and, yet again, sigh. Maybe it's already time to bury her.
