Dear Bestie,
As you approached the end of high school, you became even more isolated from the world. You seemed so far removed, so hopeless that I was sure that I lost you forever. That would have probably been your unfortunate fate if it weren't for Tessa. Tessa was a dear friend, more precious to you than most would have expected.
I can recall the first time I "met" her. Based on the way the two of you interacted, I somehow knew she would make a positive impact on your life.
You strode into your room laughing, but you weren't alone. That rare, pleasant sound filled the room bringing music to my ears. "That was awesome! The look on Ginny's face when you confronted her, she was so embarrassed!" You exclaimed.
Tessa came into view. She had untamed, frizzy, black hair and a dark chocolate complexion. The fire in her brown, slanted eyes intensified her wild appearance. "I didn't like the way she was treating you, that's all. I hate people who find it necessary to down others in order to make themselves feel good. I hate it with a burning passion." She said.
You laid your hand on Tessa's shoulder. "I really appreciate you standing up for me."
She embraced you with a hug, "That's what friends do right? You may not like me very much, but I think that I could be your friend."
She released you from her arms and you chuckled, "Don't be ridiculous. If I didn't like you, I wouldn't have let you stick around for so long. We have eaten lunch together for the last four weeks and we hang out together after school."
She scoffed, "Really, now? I wouldn't exactly call helping you not fail Calculous hanging out after school."
You smiled and rolled your eyes. "I can assure you, with me, that's as exciting as it gets."
She smirked mischievously, "I suppose we are going to have to change that, huh?"
You giggled, "I guess so."
She winked and wiggled her eyebrows, "Well I hope that you are ready for the wild ride."
Your rich laughter filled the room once more and I then decided that Tessa would be good for you. You never appeared to bond with the people present in your life, but Tessa was the exception. She brought many smiles to your face, and joy to your heart. For the first time in forever, you looked happy, truly happy.
I felt a twinge of jealousy because I didn't make you feel happy anymore. I barely existed to you. But as the Sting song you had on blast one day said, if you love someone then you have to set them free. I loved you, so I knew I had to put my feelings aside so you could be happy, even if it was with someone else who replaced me.
Love,
