They never expected this from me,

They thought I was a good girl

 Who always did what she was told.

Almost an adult, yet everything my parents taught me;

Treat everyone as my equal,

Love everyone the same,

Do not care what others make of you,

Has instead been perished within them.

My parents no longer see their baby,

but an independent woman,

and are now fearful that she will walk out of their home

with her head held high before them.

I never meant for this to happen,

but if loving someone they disapprove of means

I am finally making my own choices, then so be it.

I do not want them to keep me from my happiness.
