their trip was less than a trip. but they were both broke. so what other option did they have? besides, it didn't matter. each other's company was enough in itself. they had stopped at the grocery store, to buy snacks, drinks, both alcoholic and non alcoholic, since madison had whined for both. so, they carried bags of cheap beer, candy, and other of the miscellaneous sort in two plastic bags, that rubbed hard against both of the girl's hands. "where you taking me?" madison whined, once they were both buckled safely into the car. chloe answered with a shrug, and received a drawn out whine from madison in return. she chuckled, turned the key in the ignition, and began to drive.
the car journey wasn't long, generally. however, to madison, who couldn't seem to stop asking "are we there yet?" and "how much longer?" for the duration, it seemed like an eternity. a nice eternity, as she had chloe by her side, holding her hands, thighs, fingers, whenever she could free a hand for long enough. finallly, they parked. madison furrowed her brows, but smiled with excitement. "i can't believe you never told me you had a cabin by a lake, of all things!" the dog, who'd spent it's time sleeping on madison's lap through the ride, woke up with a yawn, and she soothed it as she looked over at chloe. "because it's ugly, my love," chloe chuckled, pushing the handle on her side of the car. she stepped out, helped madison and amber to follow suit, and led the both of them to the cabin.
it smelled like dust. that was the first thing madison noticed, and amber gave a little sneeze as she adjusted to the new surroundings. chloe groaned, looked around, and bit her lip anxiously. "it looks better with the fireplace on. i swear to god," the girl explained with a sheepish laugh. she bent down, leaving madison to pull away the sheets that covered the furniture, and pulled a lighter from her back pocket, which she used to set the fire ablaze. "see," she exclaimed proudly, and stood up with a smug expression ehich madison laughed hard at the cause of. "you're so annoying."
when the dust had cleared, and both madison and chloe had let the dust disappear into thin air, they sat in front of the fire, which remained roaring shades of orange and purple. chloe was reading aloud to madison, a poetry book which chloe had grown up with as a child, and the little ball of fluff that was amber, laid on top of the blankets covering their legs and chests. madison was staring up at chloe, and it was noticeable enough for chloe to put the book down into her lap, and chuckle, "what? did i pronounce it wrong?" she earned a shake of the head from madison, who's blue eyes dripped with tears. "hey. what is it?" chloe questioned, face screwing with concern. she watched a tear slip down madison's cheek, and then smoothed it away with her thumb. "i just love you so much," madison whimpered, laughing softly through her sobs. chloe smiled, and tears escaped from the sides of her own eyes. "i love you too, angel. endlessly."
