A few days later I find myself on set for the first time ever. I mean a real set. Stained Glass Sky was great, but it was an indie movie with a budget of about five dollars and a half eaten grilled cheese. Here, on a studio lot, I get my own trailer. I spend at least an hour in it just opening and closing the empty cabinets, sitting on every cushion, trying out the bed in the back. A dream. This is a dream. I am living out a dream.
Someone knocks on the door. "Miss Collett. They're ready for you in hair and makeup!" A PA calls.
"Coming!" I shout back. I take one last look around and smile. "A dream." I whisper to myself.
I exit the trailer and spot the PA who is waiting for me. It's a young man, tall with blond hair. He's handsome. I smile at him. "Hi! I'm Cordelia." I introduce myself.
He looks at me for a second and gives a shy smile back. "Yes, I know."
"And you are?"
"Oh!" He looks caught off guard, like no one has ever asked him that before. "Easton. Easton West."
"Easton West?" I ask. Choking down a laugh, coughing instead.
"Yeah, I know. My parents are hilarious." I laugh out loud this time. He smiles again before clearing his throat. "Umm, hair and makeup. It's this way."
We walk in silence for a couple seconds before I ask, "So... You're a PA. Personal assistant, right? What's that like?
He laughs slightly. "It pays the bills."
"That bad, huh?"
"What? No, I mean I love my job. It's just that being a PA, you're kind of on the bottom of the food chain here. Disposable I guess. Get an A lister's Starbucks order wrong and you're already halfway out the door."
"That seems like so much pressure."
He looks at me quizzically. "Umm, you're the one who's about to become a household name. Little girl's everywhere are going to be looking up to you. That seems like too much pressure."
"Well, when you put it that way... I guess you better start memorizing my Starbucks order." I wink at him.
"Lay it on me."
"Venti iced latte with soy milk?"
"Child's play. I could order that in my sleep." He gives me a relaxed smirk. For some reason I feel really comfortable around this guy. I'm not tripping over my words, or worrying about looking stupid. I wonder why that is.
"My boyfriend's drink is harder to remember than that." He says.
Oh, that's why.
I follow him through the maze of trailers and crew members wandering about. I almost get hit by a speeding golf cart before Easton manages to pull me out of the way. We reach the hair and makeup trailer and Easton gestures to the door.
"Your stop." He says.
"Thanks. See you around?"
"Who else is gonna bring you that latte?" He winks before sauntering off.
I watch him walk away for a few seconds before entering the large trailer. I'm greeted by four women. They shake my hand, congratulate me on landing the role, rave about my acting when I was Christine. Before sitting me in a chair in front of one of the mirrors. One of them begins parting my hair and french braiding it. Another begins setting up an array of makeup before me.
"Are you excited to be playing Ivy?" One asks, I think her name is Polly. She has a southern accent which I find kind of charming.
"Yeah! It's awesome." I reply.
