About a week passed, and I’d grown accustomed to the constant searching that came with Ciel’s work.
Actually, we were currently just finishing up a mission.
I sucked the very well built man’s soul out of his mouth. Blood pooled around him, from the wound he’d received when Sebastian had stabbed him in the stomach. The alley was dark and shadowy, Ciel stood at the end of it, not watching as I ate.
“This seems a bit unceremonious,” Sebastian commented at my choice of venue.
“Well, you did stab him,” I replied, “I have to eat before he dies and his soul is no longer accessible,” I tell him in a ‘duh’ tone.
“Yes, but you don’t have to consume directly from his mouth,” he stated in a cold tone.
“Death’s kiss is the easiest and fastest way,” I tell him, naming my soul-sucking kiss.
“But its not mandatory,” he replies.
“Are you trying to tell me how to consume souls?” I ask dangerously.
“I’m merely saying that tainting your lips with that of a humans is unnecessary,” he answers.
“Since when did you care if my lips were ‘tainted,” I whisper, moving forward so that our faces were now less than an inch apart, my eyes glaring into his.
His eyes shifted uneasily and he opened his mouth to reply.
“You two act more like a married couple than I’d ever thought possible for demons,” Ciel interrupted.
I turned to him in surprise; my face flushing slightly, Sebastian coughed awkwardly, “I apologize, young master.”
“Oh, its actually rather amusing,” Ciel smirked.
I scowled and stalked out of the alleyway.
Sebastian and Ciel soon caught up and we walked in silence to the carriage.
Ciel sat on one side while Sebastian and I sat on the other. It was silent for a while as I stared out into the shadowy trees, passing in blurs. The moon seemed to follow us as the horses galloped on.
“Do demons marry?” Ciel asked, breaking the silence.
I glanced over from the window in surprise at the master’s curiosity.
“We don’t have marriage as you humans see it,” Sebastian replied slowly, “Demons have mates, lifelong companions.”
My stomach lurched as an unwanted memory bubbled to the surface of my mind.
“Have you ever had a mate?” Ciel asks with cold curiosity.
