"Happy Mother's Day, maman!"

Marinette gave her mom a peck on the cheek and handed her a bouquet of white lilies. Sabine smiled, clearly overjoyed with her daughter's gift, and accepted them. "Why, they're beautiful, Marinette! Mercí!"

They embraced each other as Tom's camera flashed, capturing the moment. "Well, I better go put these in a vase before they wilt," Sabine realized, gesturing the flowers in her hand.

"No, no! Don't worry, I'll get it for you!"  Marinette ran into a different room, shortly returning with a pink, porcelain vase filled with water. When she was done arranging the lilies, she displayed them on the center of the dining room table. After the three were done admiring the view, Marinette turned and gave her mother another hug. "I love you, maman," she said, beaming brightly.

"I love you too, dear," Sabine replied with a bigger smile. "I'd love to spend the rest of the day with you, but I'm afraid I have to get back to the register. We will have a lot of customers today-"

"Nonsense, maman!" Marinette protested. "It's Mother's day! We are going out for lunch! My treat."

"Oh, that's so sweet of you, Marinette. Are you sure?"

"Of course! I insist!"

"Let me get my purse real quick. Are you ready to go?" Her mother asked. Marinette nodded fast, then frowned. "Wait...let me get my purse." She dashed up the ladder before coming back her cross body bag strapped on her shoulder. Suddenly she held her jaw and moaned a little.

Sabine's eyebrows creased with worry. "Are you alright, dear?" Despite the obvious discomfort in her daughter's expression, she brushed it off. "I'll be fine. I've just been having these awful toothaches all week," Marinette complained. Sabine put a finger to her chin. "I see...how about we schedule you a visit to the dentist tomorrow after we get back?" She suggested.

"Sounds good. Okay, let's go, maman!" Marinette cheerfully sang.

The two waved to Tom, who did the same in turn. "Have a great time, girls! I'll handle everything here," he promised. And with that, they made their way out the door to their wonderful day ahead.

.........................

It was a quiet day for Adrien Agreste. Not to mention, extra lonely. Of course, he was still accompanied by his pessimistic kwami along with the empty feeling of his massive bedroom, but today was different.

Plagg knew better and gave the boy his space, keeping to himself. He didn't even complain and whine for camembert. Not once. Though Adrien was much too lost in thought to notice.

The blonde laid on his back across his bed, blankly staring at his ceiling. The silence was uncomfortably depressing and almost eery. Was he remembering the good times? Pondering over the bad ones, like now? Daydreaming? Plagg couldn't tell.

After hours of silence, the kwami heard a voice utter so lightly he almost missed it.

"I wish she was here."

Plagg looked up, dropping the Ladybug and Chat Noir action figures on the coffee table. The small clatter they made echoed through out the vast void known as his holder's room. He didn't know what to say to him, so he remained quiet.

After a few more minutes, he spoke again, voice wavering a little this time.

"Will she ever come back?" He wondered aloud. Adrien almost sounded hoarse as if he were doing everything in his power not to break down into endless sobs.

Plagg flew over to him before gently putting a paw on the blonde's face and lightly hugging his cheek. "I'm sure she will, kid," he reassured. His sad eyes were filled with nothing but sympathy for the poor boy.

Adrien slowly blinked as his eyes became dangerously glassy looking, and tears were threatening to flood out that have been held back for so long. "Plagg, claws out," he murmured. The kwami didn't even bother to object when he was absorbed into the silver ring.

It was sunset once Chat Noir escaped from the confided walls of his mansion. The breeze blew his wild hair around, but he didn't care. He ignored the staff tucked into his belt and ran only on foot above Paris, hopping from roof to roof.

Where could she be?

What was the possibility of her whereabouts still being in Paris? It was a huge city, after all. But the odds were against him. After the sun had said goodbye for the night, Chat was still sprinting through the night, refusing to catch his breath.

Out of mere desperation, he began to cry out for his mother, but of course there was no answer. In that moment, the black cat was nothing but a little lost kitten, motherless and alone. Today was nothing but a painful reminder that she was gone. But it did not stop him.

The famous Chat Noir went on calling for her. His frantic cries did not cease as no one paid any mind to him, for the city of love was now asleep.

"Emilie!"

He suddenly stopped. His chest moved up and down as he heavily, yet noiselessly panted. His strained vocals could speak no more. He had used the last of his strength to scream her name. He had never once dared to call her by her first name. But everything was different now, wasn't it?

Chat gave in and dropped to his knees as he overlooked the shining symbol of France in front of him. The Eiffel tower still glowed, as if ignoring his pain like it didn't matter. It was like the world went on, refusing to stop and let him breathe. He buried his face into his palms and the dam had burst.

Every awful thing flooded out and over his mask. Tears streamed down his cheeks as his back shook from the endless torment. He just wanted this god awful day to be over.
