It was the next morning. And Control and Delete were already flying to a new location to spend the night. The had launched from a beach past the Storehouse, and headed straight north where they were now.
They flew for a while before coming upon a island that was literally just a rock sticking out of the ocean with one lonely tree on it.
"So...... is this gonna be our next camp for the night?" Control broke the silence with a question.
"Maybe."
Delete flew down to the rock, and landed. Delete paused for a moment to let Control slide off, before strolling over to lay down in the puny shade of the single tree near the center of the rock.
"Wow, well it's certainly..... Unique, i'll say that."
Delete made an agreement growl.
"Well i guess i could try making a fire, but the only firewood around here are branches. And im sure it would only start a small fire if it started any at all. I guess i won't find out until i try. You'll have to boost me, so i can get some of the branches."
Delete got up from his spot under the tree, and once Control was on his back, he raised his front legs and places them on the tree, putting him at a steep angle. Unsteadily Control slowly stood up, putting his arms out for balance, and reached up for a branch and grabbing hold.
Delete watched as Control pulled on the branch he held to see if it would give. When it didn't, Control moved on to another branch. When he pulled he didn't expect it to snap off so easily, it off balanced him, making him lose his footing on Delete's back. Delete spread out his left wing to catch a very startled Control.
"Heh heh, thanks bud." Control awkwardly laughed.
When Control seemed satisfied about the amount of branches he had in his arms, Delete lowered himself to let Control hop off, after he had thrown down the branches so he could jump down without hurting himself anymore than he already did.
Control gathered the branches and piled them a couple of paces away from the tree (so it wouldn't catch on fire), and backed up so Delete could shoot it to light the fire. Once Delete did that Control snuggled up next to him, and quickly fell asleep.
Huh. I guess it's up to me to keep the fire going, AND keep watch. Again. Like always. Delete rolled his eyes. Sometimes he didn't get humans and their quirky ways.
Delete curled his tail around Control, who twitched a small bit. Delete laid his wing across Control, for protection, and warmth. Delete listened to the sounds of the Ocean. The water lapping at the sides of the rock, the whistling sound of the wind. And the smell of sea salt in which the wind carried, made it even better.
Delete inhaled, taking it all in. He exhaled, before turning and laying his head next to Control.
"Goodnight Control." Delete softly meowed at Control.
. . .
When Delete woke up, he was stiff from not moving all night long. He got up and stretched, before yawning. He looked over to Control who had slipped out under his wing, and was sitting next to the dying fire, while watching the sun rise.
Absorbed in watching the sunset, Control didn't notice Delete walk up to him, startling him in the process.
"AH! Oh... hey.. Delete."
"Good morning to you too." Delete snorted.
"The sunrise is pretty... right?"
Delete shrugged. It wasn't like he'd already seen a million of them in his lifetime. Delete looked at Control, who smiled back at him.
