Selene froze, she knew that name very well. That was the name of her mother. A mother that left her Father for some fop. A girl about a year younger then Selene walked into the room, accompanied by a couple. Selene stood frozen in place as, for the first time, she saw her mother. She was beautiful! Her features looked very very similar to Selene's own. She had imagined this moment all her life, where she would run to her and tell her how much she loved her, but she didn't do that. Instead Selene only stayed in her place. The girl came toward her and curtsied,

"I look forward to singing with you"

Selene knew she had to be polite, even if she didn't like her very much.
"Likewise mademoiselle,"
Suddenly there was a squeal,

"Christine!"

Meg ran from behind the crowd and embraced Christine.

"Meg! Oh my friend how have you been mon ami! It truly has been ages!"

The two grown women let go then embraced once again,

"Oh how you have grown! You look as beautiful as ever!"

Christine laughed, and the manager called out,

"Countess Changy, Vicomete, we know how you would like to hear the young proma donna you will be singing with sing, Mademoiselle Destler?"

Selene took a deep breath and moved to the center of the stage.

"Wait!"

Everyone looked back unexpectedly. Madame Giry rushed to the Miestro. She talked with him for a moment before the instrumental crew began searching through their papers.
The Madame walked to Selene and whispered in her ear,

"Selene your father has changed the song, it is one you are quite familiar with. My dear, sing for her, make your mother proud."

Selene took a deep breath and nodded. A song started playing, Selene saw Christine's eyes and realized why Erik had chosen it. Christine knew this song, Erik had sang it to her long ago.
Selene took a breath and started to sing with her angelic voice.

"Night time sharpens, heightens each sensation
Darkness wakes and stirs imagination
Silently the senses abandon their defenses
Helpless to resist the notes I write
For I compose the music of the night
Slowly, gently night unfurls it's splendor
Grasp it, sense it, tremulous and tender
Hearing is believing, music is deceiving
Hard as lightening, soft as candlelight
Dare you trust the music of the night
Close your eyes for your eyes will only tell the truth
and the truth isn't what you want to see
In the dark it is easy to pretend
That the truth is what it ought to be
Softly, deftly, music shall caress you
hear it, fear it, secretly possess you
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind
In this darkness which you know you cannot fight
The darkness of the music of the night
Close your eyes, start a journey to a strange new world
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before
Close your eyes and let music set you free
Only then can you belong to me
Floating, falling, sweet intoxication
Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation
Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in
To the power of the music that I write
The power of the music of the night
You alone can make the song take flight
Help me make the music of the night..."

Everyone on the stage clapped, all except Christine, her eyes had turned hard and she had become pale. Emily was jumping with excitment,

"Mademoiselle you can really sing! Oh that was wonderful!"

Selene smiled slightly barely acknowledging the young girl. Selene's eyes were on Christine, and yet she didn't look at anyone, Christines eyes were looking up alarmed. Selene took this chance to look at her mother fully, trying to memorise every detail, she was stunning. It was no mystery why Erik had fallen in love with her, she truly was an angel.

"Come now you three must be ve absolutely famished from your long journey. Let us get you situated."
The manager led them out of the theatre to main entrace. Rehearsal went on, although Selene was singing she was hardly paying attention to thw song. Her mind just kept replaying her Mother over and over again, and that girl. The one who claimed to be her daughter, that was Selene's place, she was their first. Emily was just a copy cat. That was her life, Selene was supposed to have that life. And yet here they were, living the life of the infamous Phantom Of The Opera's daughter, when she could have lived the life of the famous Christine Daae's daughter instead.
