Let's get something straight: Perfect characters are annoying. Why do you think Yellowfang was such an interesting cat? Her temper. She was flawed but it made her perfect in her own way.
A Mary Sue/Gary Stu is a cat who is perfect, has no flaws, and has a magical appearance.
Anyway here are some major tips:1. I wouldn't recommend making your cat have powers unless it's a part of a prophecy like Dovewing. If your cat can't get killed, it will live to want to die (basically)
2. Your cats can be normal warriors. They don't have to be a medicine cat or leader. It's fun to be a warrior and support your clan.
3. Having flaws makes your cat more relatable. Maybe every cat likes your cat, but maybe they don't like them, they just deal with them. Maybe your cat's flaw is thinking that everyone loves it.
Go back to chapter 5 for some good flaws you can add!
Also for Mary Sues/Gary Stus, you would want to avoid making your cats pelt/ eye color something crazy. If you want to you can, it's all about creativity, but it's best to stay realistic.
Thanks for reading.
Good luck staying away from Mary Sues when making an oc!
