"J-jack?" You repeated, anxiety creating a lump in your throat. "What are you... what are you doing here?"
Oh god.
There was nothing worse than running into your ex-boyfriend on a date with your soulmate. There couldn't be anything worse than that.
He smirked, a cocky glint in his dark eyes, which were looking a little glossy from the alcohol. He never could handle his booze. "I should be asking you that question. This place isn't exactly your type of scene."
"You wouldn't know." You snapped, defensiveness rushing through you, "You haven't seen me since I broke up with you and left."
You glanced to the side, wishing Wanda was still near you so you had an excuse to walk away... or Bucky. You were taking forever to get a drink, maybe he would come check on you?
You spotted him across the room, laughing with Steve and Natasha.
Shit.
"Well, you look... good." He shrugged, taking a sip of his amber-colored drink. "You look like you've been taking care of yourself... better than before."
You scoffed, rolling your eyes, "I've been training. I work at the Avengers Compound."
His eyebrows rose, shock washing over his features. "Your mother said something about that, when I saw her a few days ago. I thought she was trying to make it seem like you were doing something productive with your life, or something. I didn't realize she actuallywas serious..."
Your jaw tightened, and your hand twitched to hit him. Breathe, Y/n. Hitting people in public is a big no-no. You're with your coworkers...
Your coworkers who hit people in public.
YOU'RE NOT HITTING ANYONE.
The moron, not realizing how pissed off you were becoming – or simply not caring – kept fucking talking.
Though, you stopped listening to what he was saying, realizing that he had said something very problematic to you.
"WAIT." You cut him off, grabbing your drink and taking a long pull of the fruity liquid, then continuing, "You saw my mother a few days ago? Where?"
"Yeah, your parents moved to New York, didn't you know that?" He snorted, not realizing how devastating the news was to you. "Honestly, Y/n, do you even talk to your mother?"
"No, I don't." You took another pull from your drink, starting to tap your foot, "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'd like to give my date his beer."
"Your date?" He laughed, running his hand through his dark, styled hair. "You're on a date?"
"Yes, I am." You huffed, grabbing Bucky's beer and wishing he would look over and see the pickle you were in. "Excuse me."
"Who's your date?" He ignored you, stepping to the side so he was blocking your way.
"My soulmate. Please move." You sucked down the rest of your drink, barely even tasting it, before setting it down. "I need to take him his beer."
"You met your soulmate?" He ignored your plea to move, stepping closer and trapping you between him and the bar. "Who is he?"
"I'm not going to ask you again." Your voice wavered a little bit, trying to be intimidating while you were internally screaming from anxiety. "Fucking move."
"Why are you being so rude, Y/n? I'm just trying to talk to you."
"Fucking move." Your heart was starting to hammer against your chest, and your hands started to shake, palms slick against the bottle of beer – which was surely warm, now. "Now."
