We are in our last period of the day, French. Max and I were seated next to each other. Like every other class. We have every single class together, and we are seated together every time.

I found out through the day that Max plays Saxophone, he likes drawing, Math and Science, singing, acting and dancing.

"So," Max says. "Looks like every-other day of the week we will not only be seeing each other, but being seated next to each other in every class! Crazy huh?"

"Yeah! You know... I'm surprised people don't think we are dating! I'm always next to you!"

"I know! Oh!" Max looks over at the door. "The teacher's walking in! Shh!"

"Bonjour everyone! My name is Mister Thomas and I will be your French teacher this year. I want this space to be a-"

I start staring into space and daydreaming. I dream about life back in London when it was good, and not after my big secret got out. That sucked. I dreamed about moving to America, and what life will be like ten years from now.

I see me and Max standing together, holding an award. An Oscar. There is a trailer of a musical movie, with dancing and singing and lights! Wait... Why is Max there?

I snap out of my daydream. Many people have left the classroom, but few have stayed, and are asking the teacher questions. I gather my things, go to my locker, pack everything, and take a sigh of relief. The day is over.

"Hey Alicia!" Max exclaims and he grabs my shoulders from behind me.

"Hi!" I say and laugh.

"Whatcha doin' after the school?"

"I'm not doing much. Just, 'the homework'" I say mockingly.

"That is very exciting! Mind if I do my homework with you?"

"Ummm... Let me ask my mom!" I get out my phone and call her.

"Hey sweetheart! What's up?" Mom says very cheerfully

"Um, well, I made a friend, and we were wondering if he could come over for homework!"

"Oh sure! Just meet me in the back parking lot and I'll pick you two up!"

"Thanks Mom! I love you! Bye!"

"Bye sweetie!"

I hang up the phone, and put it in my backpack.

"She said to go to the back parking lot and she'll pick us up!"

"Cool! Let's go!"

We walk to the back parking lot, and Mom is pulling up when we get there. She rolls down the window and says, "You two can sit in the back!"

I open the door and Max crawls in. I follow him and buckle my seatbelt.

"So," Mom says. "What's your name?"

"Max," He responds.

"That's nice!"

"Why isn't she freaking out that a boy is here?" Max whispers to me as Mom starts the car.

"She hasn't really minded this kind of thing. She says, 'People are people, and as long as they are nice, they can be in my house.'"

"Oh cool!" Max says and looks out the window.

When we get home, Mom gets us a snack of apples and peanut butter. We take our shoes off, and set down our backpacks full of homework. On the first day.

"So," I begin. "Let's start with Spanish, and work our way down the list of classes. Does that sound okay?"

"It's perfect!" Max gets out a pink sheet of paper with words written in Spanish that we have to translate. We begin Problem 1: a.
