Max and Michelle

Out of the Closet

When I get home, all I can think about is Michelle. I do my homework and go into my room when I'm finished. I pull out my phone, and see I have a couple messages from an unknown number.

Unknown: Hi! Out sick today so I can't come to school. Hope I can see you tomorrow!

Unknown: This is Max btw

It takes a little bit to respond.

Me: Hey! How did you get my number?

I turn off my phone, and almost immediately get a text back.

Max: Your mom gave it to me after homework!

Me: Oh sweet! How come I didn't notice?

Max: Your mother and I were outside by my dad's car, and you were still inside.

Mom calls me down for dinner.

Me: Sorry! I have to go! Bye!

Max: Don't say sorry! It's fine! L8r Alicia

I turn my phone off and go downstairs. I smell taco meat and tomatoes. I go faster down and into the kitchen. Taco Tuesday!

"Hi Mom!" I say. "How was work?"

"Great! Thanks for asking!" She replied with a big smile. "How was school?"

"Good," I begin. "So, I met someone today and they are very nice! She is very pretty," My face starts getting warm. "And I would love to be friends with her!"

"Sounds like my daughter has a crush!" She twirls my hair and asks, "What's she like?"

"Well, she has straight black hair, emerald green eyes, always wears blue and pink, and she's very, very, very kind."

"Oh! She sounds nice! Did it get out yet?"

"No. Not yet," I say.

"Do you want it to be out?"

"Yes of course I do! But people will judge me and laugh at me about it like London. That sucked. I don't want that to happen again!"

"I don't either sweetie," Mom sighs and sits next to me. "If I were you, I would just get it over with by telling her or Max. You trust them right?"

"Of course I do! That's a good idea. I'll tell them both!"

I rush upstairs and grab my phone. I turn it on and open messages.

Me: Hey Max! I want to tell you something.

Max: What's up?

Me: I'm bisexual.

I turn off my phone and wait. Ten minutes. Twenty minutes. A half hour. I check my phone and it says underneath the message, "Read."

I give up and start to read.
