Y/N POV
Seconds to minutes, minutes to hours and at this point, not am I only exhausted right now but scared. My soul is probably on the brink of leaving this body behind as Xander and I walk behind the walls of the isolated building.
Every time Xander and I find a place to take a breather, we hear men between the walls tattle about someone 'cashing in one's chips' which didn't make any sense to me until we hear the undeniably loud gunshot ricocheting through the tunnels.
To think that the men not sounding panicked whatsoever disgusted me. The noise they were making even after hearing the gun shot was just as worse as they were still having their usual conversation like nothing had happened.
"Well who do you think is under this time?" A deep voice piped in the cluster of racket.
"I reckon it's yer' mate Tim. He's been slackin' off like the dumbass he is."
"Nah it's for sure Rick."
"I'm placing my bets on Desmond."
"Oi, I'm right here you fucker!"
Sickening to hear their uproar of laughter about their conversation, I mentally forced their voices out of my mind and continue to follow behind Xander. At this point I was convinced that the men that had this profession were all ludicrous, like who in the world were naming off people that were the next to be killed?
But what didn't sit well in my stomach was Tony. What made the man go entirely rotten to the pit of his soul? He was never the one to take a job like this. However, neither did I expect him to cheat on me. I guess the man is full of surprises.
At first I didn't think much of the low grunts I was hearing every few minutes but the moment I was about to walk right into Xander, I took notice of how he was holding his side in pain when he was no longer walking.
"Cuddles, are you alright?" I scurried to his side as he slid his back to the walls, no longer being able to take the pain.
"Those men did pack a punch." He wheezed out as he lifted his shirt to allow me to see the damage Tony's goons had inflicted on his abdominal region.
I literally had no clue what to do in this situation and even if I did, this wasn't the right place to do it either.
Xander struggled to push himself off the wall to get back on his feet to only wince and throw his back to the wall once again.
"There's no point moving in your state. Let's just rest here for a while." I sit by Xander's side.
Overtime, the noise by the men's chattering slowly died down which made the tunnels more peaceful to my ears. It's been a minute since I've been able to really sit down in a place for a while and not need to worry constantly about what was happening. To be exact, the last time I was alone like this was when Xander and I got kidnapped.
"What are you thinking about?" Turning my head to the sound of Xander's voice.
"Just thinking about the last time I was in a place of not needing to worry about anything." The look of Xander's face was almost unreadable but I caught a glimpse of sadness and anger.
