Chapter Two
The nurses had dragged Zayn out of my office and back into his cell.
Meanwhile I was sitting on my uncomfortable chair with Zayn's file on the desk.
I didn't get it, he says he's innocent yet when I said I believed he was innocent he just lost it completely and told me I shouldn't.
He was so mysterious and confusing, it made me want to know more about him.
I'm supposed to be seeing another patient in a few minutes.
Meredith Hart was her name.
At only 20 years old she was admitted to Montgomery Asylum (1947) meaning she's 23 now.
It broke my heart to know her and so many others have lost the rest of their lives.
They're all so young.
I heard a knock coming from the door, i assumed it was Meredith and the nurses so i asked them to come in.
When the door opened i didn't know what to expect.
A young girl with a rough past? Or a terrifying insane 23 year old?
But what i saw was completely different to my thoughts.
A pale girl walked in showing no emotion, her lips were an unhealthy purple.
She was wearing a mucky white gown that reached to just above her ankles.
She was too hand cuffed like Zayn with two nurses at each side of her.
Her file said she had murdered her parents, honestly speaking she didn't seem like she would do such a terrifying act.
"Outside please." I said to the guards who silently obeyed.
I walked over to Meredith who had her head hung low and i took hold of her cuffed hands bringing her towards the chair.
Ignoring the cold in her hands i took this as my chance to analyse her.
She had ebony black shoulder length hair and her skin was paler than ever.
She flinched as i pulled the chair out for her to sit on.
"P-please don't m-make me do th-his" She whispered to me.
I took my respectful seat across her and tried my best to comfort her.
"Meredith honey," I cooed sweetly.
"I'm not going to hurt you Meredith." I tried.
She remained stiff and ignored my previous words.
I brought my hand up to my long brunette hair and tucked a piece behind my ear.
"Meredith?" I noticed she was shaking and had her fists clenched.
"They're gonna kill me, I know it. They're gonna kill me." She continued whispering.
Like she was reciting some sort of mantra, she was shaking her head and clenching her fists harder than ever.
"Who's going to kill you?" I gulped.
"They said they're going to send me to hell." She ignored me.
"They said that?" I gasped.
I didn't even know who 'they' is but it must be pretty serious if Meredith can't let it go.
"Meredith, i'ma need you to calm down. Take a deep breath." I stood behind her chair with my each of hands on her bony shoulders.
Meredith looked like she was going to say something before the door abruptly opened.
I turned around to see Mr Montgomery with two security guards and a nurse behind him.
"Wha-" He didn't let me finish off.
"Take her away!" He roared and pointed to Meredith.
I froze in horror, my hands still resting on each side of her shoulders.
That was until one of the security guards pulled me off of her.
"What do you think you're doing!?" I exclaimed.
"Our duty Ma'am. She is a threat to all." The muscular man in black said.
They lifted her up, one held her arms and the other held her legs.
Meanwhile, Meredith was screaming and trying to escape from their grip, the nurse pressed an injection on her arm.
It looked similar to the one they used on Zayn not too long ago
I watched her collapse and them take her away.
"What the hell?" I slammed the door shut so it was just me and Mr Montgomery.
"Lady, it is only your first day here you cannot and will not speak to me like that.
You cannot treat Meredith, pick another patient." He remained calm.
"Where is Meredith?" I asked lowering my voice.
"Where she belongs. You have had a hectic day you may return home." He looked at me.
"I expect you to be here at around noon tomorrow." He finished with a smile.
"Uh sure I'll just uh grab my things?" I felt nervous.
He nodded and showed himself out.
I quickly went over to the file cabinet and flipped through them all until I got to Zayn's.
I pulled it out and put Meredith's back in.
Realising it was too big to carry and if I got caught with it I'd be in a lot of trouble, I had to hide it some place they wouldn't notice.
At that moment, under my shirt felt like a brilliant idea so I slipped the file underneath my silky green shirt.
It felt cold against my warm skin but i soon got used to the feeling.
The rectangular shape could be seen through my shirt and corners were poking through.
I opened the door and stepped outside, it was chilly so I folded my arms across my chest and that covered the file lying beneath.
As I walked between the dull walls of Montgomery Asylum I realised that this was hell.
Pure hell.
Even hell wasn't this bad probably.
I could hear faint screams of patients getting tortured, few getting caned and going through beatings.
My heart swelled for them, they didn't deserve to be here. Locked away with only one escape, death.
Some patients required this and others didn't.
Snapping out of my thoughts I walked into the main hall which was empty,
I managed to get through and to the front door without getting caught.
Just when I thought I had gotten away with it a security guard approached me..
