John asked her out again, and after that disastrous dinner with James the other night, she felt like she needed to make it up to John. They agreed to meet up for lunch on a random workday. He was a good man and Ella did not want to hurt him, but she also was not interested in anything more than friendship and did not want to send the wrong signal by spending time with him over a weekend.
"We're looking to hire this famous artista for our new commercial," John shared. He worked for an ad agency engaged by Happy Eats. "Kaya lang ang problema, nakikipag-live in na siya dun sa rumored boyfriend niya."
"O, anong problema dun?" Ella asked.
"It's not good for the brand. In another country that won't matter, pero dito sa atin, that still has some impact eh. People want the goody two shoes, girl next door type of trailblazer. They don't want to rock their boats too much," he said.
Ella had to agree. She sighed. "Yup, sadly ganyan nga dito. People should really get over it. It's none of their business anyway. From what I hear, that artista is otherwise good and can bring customers to stores."
"Yes. Well. Pero grabe... live in. I can't imagine being with someone who lived with someone before. Parang hindi smart yung move na yun for women."
Ella looked at him with disbelief. "Seryoso ka ba?"
"Oo naman. Why?"
"Ang judger mo naman. Besides, who are you to say na hindi yun smart move for women? Some people live together because they love each other and they want to be together but are not ready for marriage or can't get married yet."
"Yun nga eh, parang easy to do that tapos kapag gipit na let's break up and go our own ways? Dapat if you love each other kasal, and stick it out."
"That's very narrow-minded." She was incensed and wanted to put John in his place because this was a topic she was passionate about and she disliked how he judged women with the things he said, but before she could pursue the topic, her secretary called that the people she was meeting with were already at the office.
She was in a terrible mood the rest of the day and took a long walk by the pool side that night. Still, her mind didn't quiet down.

Ella had to smile at that. He had always been protective of her and she didn't doubt that there was some sincerity in what he said. But, she knew that after everything, it wasn't proper to just run to him. She sighed.
