Drizzle pounding the rustic roof, barraging somewhat lulling melody of pitter patters in the world engulfed by darkness, despair and weariness. Of the sky coloured with swirls of indigo and azure bestowing the teardrops from the merciful heaven, it was a sign- a chance of survival for mankind amongst the threat from destructions.
She was content, living in her own blighted fairy tale world where instead of magic nor comfort, the fairies in her story had an unparalleled hunger to devour every matter in their path. Aragami has stripped the world before her bare; food and supplies were just enough during the good days whereas others they were limited to few sickly. For the maiden, it was enough for her to be with the amenity of her family and survivors residing in the run-down factory. Even when her life consisted of journeying into the uncertainty expanse, rummaging through for supplies whilst keeping surveillance on stray Aragamis; this world orb of her was enough.
An innocence flowing within the tainted wreckage.

"Mom, lookie here", exclaimed a childlike voice appeased for the work she was entrusted to by the elders of the community. Handing over the vials and packets of medicine to the older woman- strands of grey hair tussled in an unkempt bun, focused sable-coloured irises scanning the items, narrow shoulders yet lean body. She nodded after appraising the virtue of said medical supply provision, garnered a proud look from the younger girl of her job well-done. Skipping the way towards the run-down yet operable truck to load her bounty, far in the desolated land immense blast exploded puffing out pitch smog.
Stunned due to the unfamiliar cause of the blast yet seemingly suspicious of the imminent threat followed along, the young child's heart was probed with fear. An aged man, grey strands weaving through the darker ones and eyes filled with animosity maturity towards the malignant smokey air. "Evie, go tell the others that it is time to go.", his voice was like the calm before the raging storm and the intensity made the child hesitated back not relieving her gaze away from the towering black smoke.
The mild chide alerted her for the lack of haste- he popped a frown and clicked his tongue, tone spiked with trepidation had managed to drive his youngster away. With each of her tiny hustled steps, loose dirt crunched synchronised along the little girl's trouncing heart. 'What could happen? Will they find us? Are they going to eat us?' ran across the youth's mind, at such fragile age despairing dread was already circling her like vultures.
'Are we going to die today?'
The idea rattled cold onto her bones, nipping the senses of the young girl with numbing fear. Dissonant of emotions resurfaced once more and all were contained within the tiny body, piling up with previous similar encounters and unable to leave. The scrunches turned into concrete taps as little Evie reached the supposed ruins of a pharmacy where she left her mother. Noticing the heaves and pale expression of distressing painted upon the youngest, the adults in the vicinity halted in recognition. Trading glances at each other and reaching to the same verdict, all proceeded to haul their findings back to the vehicles. Hushed yet frightful thumps tiptoed back and the ruin was once again silent as a ghost town.
She couldn't move anymore, the fear froze her bones and muscles into a standstill- breaths quickened into gasping pace as her chest bubbled with heartburns. Only the warmth of a pair of arms recollected her back towards the reality as she was swooped up by the queen of her heart. "Stop shaking now." It was harsh yet there was a distinct comfort to the older woman's voice. If not for the taut grip onto Evie's arm, she would have thought that the world was left with only negativities. Her tiny fingers gripped the crunchy clothes of the mother to bask in the safe haven and those frigid emotions sunk down under.
The vehicle rode guardedly to avoid detection while the gatherers anxiously scanning their surroundings for Aragamis. Evie was still clinging upon the older lady, fearing for both beasts and the darkness within her to emerge. Her presence was needed, sufficiently enough. Just with her existence, Evie could tolerate another breath in this deteriorating world.
'It was enough to know that they are here with me...'
Hushes alerted the passengers to be extra quiet and on guard for any situations and the driver readied himself to gun down on the gas. Little Evie, on the other hand, took an opportunity for a small peek on the wreckage of the towering smoke witnessed far away previously before. The youngster was rendered speechlessly sombre before the iron stench-filled crimson stage.
Mutilated bodies, drenched in scarlet fresh oozes devoured by the predacious beasts. Tusks and fangs pierced and rove in cold blood, rapaciously ripping the innards of the human out and painted the once earthen ground into a bloody mess. Few of the remains born the expressions of anguish, hopelessness and despondent- before those were also being gulped down remorselessly. The lingering gaze of her's was shielded in a tight squeeze, away from the carnage by her mother. Yet, not even that could erase the haunting faces of the fallen. Imprinted deep in her consciousness, it was a view replaying in a loop beneath her lenses.
The jeep slowed to a halt, the engine revved inaudibly under the vulgar sploshing munches. "Why the heck did you stopped? Are you tryin' to get us killed?!", hissed one of the adults with apparent terror upon his eyes. The driver rebuked to the reasonable gibe in a collected manner and signalled toward a direction nearby the feeding zone. Evie gathered the remaining fragments of her courage to satisfy her curiosity. There it was in the midst of blood and remaining corpses.
A survivor.
A young lad.
