I blink, but I cannot tell. The darkness presses in on me. It suffocates me. This pod is bigger. No, that's not true. I am smaller.
My wings are gone. My scales are gone. My tail is gone. What the hell happened to me? I look down at myself, realizing that it was pointless soon after. I couldn't see a spotlight in this inky blackness.
Small pinpoints of light flicker in front of my eyes. The ice-cold shell of the pod suddenly turns clear. The light assaults my eyes, making me flinch. Wait, my eyes?
The lid of the pod hinges up and off me. I am pulled to my feet. Guards point their rifles at me. Those don't look like anything I have ever seen. New tech?
The lab is different. Bigger. How long was I in that pod?
"Welcome back to the living, Subject 01558" came a voice from my side. I snap my head in the direction of the noise. A thin, wiry man studies me from behind thick glasses.
I glance down at myself. Besides being naked, there seems to be nothing wrong. No scales. No wings. No tail. It must have been a dream.
"What happened?" I rasp, "Why am I being held here?"
The man smiled. His grin made him seem like a shark. "You aren't being held here. This is where you were created."
"Created?" I ask, "What do you mean?" Rage begins to build up inside me.
"Yes. Created. We merged your DNA with several other creatures. You are a weapon." I am a weapon.
