World War 2 Hunger Games

Meet Katniss

(Same day as the last chapter) 

Katniss's POV

"Katnissssss! wake up! We need to get a gift for dad!"  Once I hear my sister saying we need to get a gift for dad, I run to my closet and change into a lite blue dress. I put my hair in double french fold-in. I grab my nurse hat and coat.

" Let's go Prim!" I yelled.

" I'm coming!" She yelled back.

We go out the door and go to downtown Sacramento. We walk around for awhile.

"What are we going to get for dad's birthday present?" My sister Prim asked.

"I really don't know...How about we get him....a trip to Hollywood Land?" I said.

"But we don't have enough money for that!" 

"Well the hotel will cost $10 a night  then well pay a dinner." I stated. "And I do have the money for that."

"Okay, let's do that. Can we get lunch now!" Prim always wants to get lunch with me before I go to work but I can't afford it everyday.

"Fine but, it's the last time this month." I said.

" Yay, I didn't eat breakfast because I had to wake someone up." 

"Sorry I had the boy in my dream again." I said. A month ago this boy has been in my dreams every night. Some times he dies and I break down or it's a happy dream were he runs around with kids in the meadow. He has blue eyes and curly blonde hair. He's kind, sweet and caring.

We get a card  to say your going to Hollywood for a weekend and after, we went  to a cafe. Prim got a hamburger with fries and a coke. I got a strawberry shake. See this is why I can't afford lunch each day 'cause Prim gets the expensive stuff. I look at the clock and see it's 11:30. I have to be at the army building in 10 minutes! "Prim, we have to go or I'll get yelled at by  Captain Abernathy." 

She takes one last bite of her hamburger and stands up. We walk to the diner doors. I yell to the cook Darius (he's a friend) "Bye Darius!"

"Bye Katniss." He yelled back.

"Prim, can I trust you to go back home by yourself?" I asked her.

 "Yes." She said back.

"Okay I love you and I'll see you soon." I kiss her on the head and start to run to the army buliding.

"Love you too!" Prim yelled.

I run for my life to get to the army building. A clock is in my view sight and it's 11:39. I have one more minute to get to the army building. I run up the stairs, walk threw the doors." Nurse Everdeen! You're late."  Captain Abernathy said.

I look at the clock it just turned 11:40. I could tell him I'm on time but I could get fired if I backed talked.

"Sorry." I said. I go to the nurse's office and drop my stuff in there. I go back out of the office.

"Katniss!"  I heard my friend Annie. " I have news!" She said as she is running to me.

"Well what is it?"

" I heard that Finnick is coming to sign up." She said. Her and Finnick dated for a year then Annie thought she was pregnant and Finnick didn't want anything to do with it so they broke up, but it was a pregnancy scare and Finnick didn't want to get back with her.

"What? I thought he said he would never go in the army and..." and I got cut off by our head nurse, Portia.

"Annie you'll go to the vision table and Katniss you'll do the front table then after that you go to your next station." She said.
