Okay I am still salty that Emmerich just vanished in TLOS 6. He's Lloyd's son, but he still has magic in his blood! He can do magic if he tries!
I thought Emmerich could guard the portal in the castle to prevent evil creatures from getting into the Otherworld. But nope, Chris Colfer had to move him away.
So, as far as we know, there are three "descendants of magic".
Alex is obviously the heir of magic and becomes the Fairy Godmother.
Conner is the guy that immortalizes fairy tales by writing them down.
While Emmerich can be a teacher that passes down the tales to the next generation. He probably knows a lot about them and he's a sweet kid. I can imagine him working at the castle as a tour guide or telling kids about fairy tales.
Alex is the descendant in the literal sense, while Conner and Emmerich keep the fairy tales and magic alive not so literally. This has always been how it is in my mind.
