I pulled into the first parking spot I saw and pulled the gear shift until "P" was highlighted on the dashboard. Lifting my butt out of the seat, I pulled my phone out of my back pocket. I switched it on and unlocked it, opening my home screen. I opened an app. A welcome message came up, Good morning, Bailey. Don't forget to track. I closed the popup and entered in the calories for the banana, before turning my phone back off and slipping it back in my pocket.

I heard a tap on my window and turned to see who was there. I found myself greeted by a huge smile, belonging to my best friend. I pushed down the button on the door and the window rolled down slowly, emitting a soft hum.  I smiled back at him.

  "Good morning, beautiful!" he chirped.

I giggled, "Good morning! I'm not beautiful."

He rolled his eyes, "Are you gonna let me in, or what?"

I unlocked the door and he walked around to the passenger side, opening the door and getting in.

He looked over at me, "How'd you sleep?"

  "I slept alright. You?"

"I slept okay, had weird dreams."

"How weird?"

"Really freakin' weird."

I started to reply but was interrupted by the first bell ringing through the campus.

"That's my cue to leave, shortstack. I love you."

"Love you too. Have a good day, Nicky!"

He got out of my car and I watched him walk up the sidewalk to the main entrance to the school. I turned the car off and pulled the key out of the ignition, gathering my things and getting out. I pushed the lock button on my keys as I walked toward the school.

I'd known Nick since I was 10, and he'd been my absolute best friend since I was 12.  He was tall, almost 6 feet. He had blonde hair, but it had a strawberry tint to it, almost ginger but not quite crossing over that line. He was handsome, with a strong jaw and bright green eyes speckled with light blue. His pale skin was decorated with freckles scattered over his nose and his cheeks.  I often found myself wondering why girls didn't fall all over him.

I pulled open the door that Nick had walked through shortly before. I wiped my feet on the rug right in front of the door as I stepped into the school. I ambled through the hallway, stopping once I reached my locker. I pulled out the books I needed for my first period and slipped them into my bag. Shutting my locker dooras I walked past it, I made my way to my math class.

My first 3 classes drug on like a cloud in the sky. I set my bag down on the seat across from me to save the seat and placed my tray in front of me. I looked around, searching for Nick.

"Bailey?!" I heard from behind me.

I started to turn around, "God, it took you long e- Tristan?"

  "You go here?" he asked

  "Um, you go here?"

  "Yeah, man. First day."

  "Oh, okay."

I realized he'd been holding his tray over the course of the conversation.

"Ah! I'm sorry," I patted the chair beside me. "Sit with me."

As he sat down, Nick walked up to the table, one eyebrow raised as he looked Tristan up and down. He handed me my bag over across the table. I took it from him, putting it on the ground between my feet.

"Nick, Tristan. Tristan, Nick."

Nick nodded to Tristan, "Hey."

"Nice to meet you. How do you know Bailey?"

He took a bite of his sandwich and glanced up at me, "She's my best friend," he said after swallowing, "How do you know Bailey?"

  "Therapy."

While they talked, I pulled my phone out, opening my calorie counting app. I entered in half a sandwich and a cup of juice, and closed it, placing my phone on the table face-down, joining in on the conversation.

                                          .

I walked out of the entrance after my last class, happy to be done for the day. I unlocked my car from the sidewalk. As I opened the door, I heard a familiar voice from the passenger side.

"What a cuck! You're just hanging out with him cause you pity him right? I totally don't blame you, babe."

I got into the car and pushed the button to unlock his door.

"Nick! For Christ's sake, be nice. I'm hanging out with him because he seems nice. Case closed."

He frowned, "Hmph. Whatever. What are we eating, shortstack?"

  .

We pulled into the parking lot of The Wallflower Diner, our favorite place to eat after school. Walking up to the door,  I watched Nick jog ahead of me and hold it open.

I pulled at the air, like a lady in a ballgown, "Why thank you, kind sir."

He grinned, "Anything for a beautiful lady like yourself."

We laughed, falling into each other, and walked inside smiling. We walked to a table, standing close enough that our hands brushed together every few steps. For some reason, it gave me butterflies. We sat down, and a waitress came right over, knowing we didn't need the menus.

"Small vanilla shake and a half order of mozzarella sticks for the girl and," she pointed her pen at Nick, "cheeseburger all the way with fries for you?"

We both nodded, and she ripped the paper off of the pad, bringing it to the chef. Shortly after, she returned and put the food on the table in front of us.

She recited her usual mantra, "Plates are hot, be careful. Yell if you need anything. I'll bring your check."

We responded with more nodding and synchronized "Thank you"s

We ate slowly, occasionally trading a fry for a mozzerella stick. I pulled out my phone, entering the calories for 2 cheese sticks and half a shake.

Nick looked up from his food, "So.. do you have a crush on that Tristan guy?"

  I contemplated this, "Maybe."
