You turn the corner, and instantly the entrance of an alleyway comes into view a few yards away.

I'll take it.

You quickly snoop to the left and rest your back on the wall.

As if on cue, the gang run past, murmuring things of defeat.

As a result, a small smile creeps onto your face.

Good; I lost them.

However, you are still recovering from the panic that had built up inside.

A tune brings you out of your dream and into pitch darkness.

My alarm tone…

Morning sun rays shine through your lids, making you see black turn to red as you regain your consciousness.

You open your eyes and push yourself up on your bed.

Hm. Another day to get ready for school.

Why can't school start later? Gosh, is it so hard to push the time we start forward an hour?

These thoughts run around your headspace as you make your way to the bathroom and start your daily routine.

Approximately 3 quarters of an hour later, you emerge from your room, ready to leave in a few minutes.

But you haven't seen your parents all morning.

You knock pretty hard on their bedroom door 3 times, but hear nothing.

Heck, no sound is even coming out of the room.

To see if they are truly in a sweet slumber, you push down the ice cold metal handle-

Why is it so cold?

Once you open the door, your gaze immediately wanders to the blowing white curtains of the open windows.

Oh, that's why this room is so cold.

And your parents' presence isn't here.

Baffled, you search your memory bank for evidence of their whereabouts.

Ok, mum's at work, I remember that.

But it's dad's day off today, and he didn't say he was going anywhere at half 7 in the morning.

Who does?

Apart from students.

And those who go to work.

As you abandon the bedroom, the eerie silence sends a painfully slow shiver down your spine.

Why do I feel like this is bad?

While walking down the carpeted stairs, there's enough silence for you to listen between your footfalls for the reason of your confusion.

The atmosphere seems to crush you, making your breathing uneven.

You enter the livingroom; everything is the same.

However, words can't describe your emotions as you walk into the kitchen.

"Oh my God." I exhaled deeply, although I felt my tone becoming uneven and unsteady. "I got lucky there."

I didn't even think I'd be able to speak properly once the latter picked up. "Adiel, I want to cry."
"What happened?"
"In the game, something happened to my dad, but the game gave me the option to go to the home page so I fucking took that shit."
Adiel went silent for a moment, seeming to be in thought. "So it was a bad thing?"
"Yeah, if I continued…" I sighed. "I don't want anything to happen to my dad tomorrow." A tear trickled out of my right eye and down my cheeks as I whispered. My parents were awake after all.
"Shh. You should get some sleep. How long have you been up playing this game for?"
"About an hour."
"It's almost 11, go to bed." With that, my friend ended the call on me.
