Chapter 4:
"Xander!”
It was raining heavily. Xander's mom wailed while her husband supported her as she cried even more. Everybody was mourning. All his relatives, friends and even his classmates were all gathered in their black attires as a symbol of their mourning. Attending a funeral is heartbreaking. It makes your world end. Like what's the use of your existence if that person who makes you feel special is already gone?
Everyone is starting to get more emotional as they started on burying Xander's coffin together with their white roses.
Goodbye Xander James Cortez, we will never forget you. Please rest peacefully and don't forget about us. We love you and always will.
Then after that everybody left.
While walking on a busy street, Keirra was soaking wet. Her skin was so pale it was as though she hasn’t eaten in nearly a week and her eyes were so sad, she looked like she had no reason to live.
She wanted to see him one last time, but she couldn't. She can't even go near him during his funeral because every step is consisted of a thousand stabs. All of their memories made her cry more. Those memories with him are so precious to her. Her dream of happy ending with him is now impossible to happen.
"Is this my fault? If we never argued with each other, would you still be alive? If so, then I'm the worst. Please…if this is a dream, make it stop. I want to wake up from this nightmare. Once I open my eyes I want to see him making fun of my sleeping face...please bring him back to me. I’m begging you, I can't live without him."
Then she heard a honk from a car. She didn't even realize that she crossing the road with the red light on.
"Hey! Are you trying to kill yourself?!" the driver shouted.
"Me? Kill myself?” She paused. “I really want to so why did you stop? You should just let me die." Kierra answered like she was really determined to die.
"You're crazy."
Kierra just smiled at the driver and continued to cross the road with the red light when a ten wheeler truck approached her. The driver of that truck stepped on the breaks, but it didn't work, He kept pressing the horn to make Kierra step away from the road, but Kierra persisted to stay on the road.
Kierra closed her eyes so that she wouldn't feel the incoming impact. Instead of being scared, she smiled.
Xander, I’m coming to see you....wait for me.
She heard people scream and within a second she got hit by a truck.
"Can I hug you for a while?"
"You can hug me, wherever and whenever you want. And I'll do the same."
"I'm yours."
"You're mine."
"You're my nothing.....Cause nothing lasts forever"
Kierra...
Kierra heard a very familiar voice that made her heart beat like it was alive again.
Kierra wake up...don't give up. You are not alone.
Kierra please live for me…please come back.
Please don't die....
Because of those words Kierra woke up. She rolled her eyes then she realized she had a visitor with a concerned expression on his face. Kierra was disappointed because she thought it was Xander's voice. Instead, it was Jeremy, who was wearing a v-cut black t-shirt with a cross necklace and pants and shoes. He must’ve came from Xander's funeral.
"Where am I?" Keirra asked him in a low tone.
"You're in the hospital."
"Hospital?"
"Kierra, you don't remember?” Jeremy asked. “You almost got hit by a truck.”
"What do you mean almost?"
"The truck managed to avoid you a little, leaving you a minor head injury.” Zeke answers. “Another truck was approaching on the other side of the road so...the driver died."
When he finished the words he wanted to tell her, Kierra sat up. "Why did he avoid me? He should’ve just let me die! Couldn’t he see that I wanted to die! Why?! I want to be with Xander!"
Kierra screamed and cried hysterically, which made Jeremy call out a doctor to calm her down. When the doctor arrived, the nurse grabbed Kierra's arm.
"Let me go!" Kierra protested.
"Ms. Gomez, please calm down!"
"No!" Kierra continued to struggle and protest but they wouldn't listen to her. Zeke clasped his hands together tightly because it was the only way for him to hold his pity for Kierra.
He couldn’t bear watching Kierra's current situation because it made his heart heavy with pain. He wished that he could do something to lessen Kierra's desperation aside from being by her side. Another nurse came inside but she had a tray of medicines and syringes.
"What are you doing?" Jeremy asked.
"I’m sorry, but the patient is out of control. We need to tranquilize her."
"But that's going to hurt."
"Sir, there’s no other option. if the patient keeps persisting we have no choice but to do it by force."
"Just…just go easy on her."
"Leave it to us."
Kierra was now asleep with Jeremy watching her with pity.
"Kierra, why did it turn out like this? Look at yourself. You’re being pitied. I know you can't accept the situation yet but don't try to kill yourself. Xander will not be happy if he sees you like this. There are many people who want to live and have another chance so don't waste your time doing unnecessary things. If you need someone, you have us. I will never leave this room. I will guard you and when you have a nightmare I'll wake you up. I will never leave you."
Jeremy continued to guard Kierra even ‘til nighttime. Deep into the night whilst Jeremy was asleep, Kierra finally wakes up. She brushed Jeremy's raven hair and watching his sleeping face. She found it very weird because they really look alike even when they’re sleeping. Her phone suddenly vibrated.
‘We need to talk Kierra.’
It was a text message from Xander's mom. Kierra was scared for what was about to happen, but she needed to face it alone. Leaving Jeremy with a blanket on his shoulders, she left the hospital. When she arrived at the destination she saw Xander's mom seating in a bench at the park.
"Mrs. Cortez What do you want to tal-" Keirra didn't get to finish her words because Xander's mom slapped her.
"It's your entire fault. I wish you were the one who died instead of my son! He doesn't deserve someone like you. You killed him. Loving you was my son's biggest mistake. Don't you dare visit my son's grave, you disgrace." Then Mrs. Cortez left Kierra alone in the park. Keirra touched her face and she knew it that it would better if she was the one who got killed in the accident instead of involving am innocent person.
"Kierra…"
Kierra turned around and saw her group of friends with worried looks. They walked towards Keirra. Eliza held her hands.
"Kierra, I know it’s selfish for us to make you forget Xander but everybody was planning to go camping. Would you like to attend the camping with us? This might get you to move on."
